  1. They find genetic iron mutations COMMON in those with gestational

Increased C282Y Heterozygosity in Gestational Diabetes.

Background: Hereditary hemochromatosis is an autosomal recessive
disorder of iron metabolism that is characterized by excess
accumulation of iron in various organs and often leads to diabetes
mellitus (DM). To study whether mutations in the hemochromatosis gene
(HFE) could be a risk factor for the development of gestational
diabetes mellitus (GDM), the prevalence of HFE mutations in patients
with GDM was compared to that of healthy pregnant controls. Methods:
GDM was diagnosed in 208 of 2,421 pregnant woman screened between the
24th and 28thweek of gestation over a period of 18 months. Patients and
170 matched control subjects were screened for the HFE gene mutations
C282Y and H63D. Results: In North and Central European GDM patients,
the allele frequency of the C282Y mutation (7.7%) was higher than in
    pregnant controls (2.9%; p = 0.04), while the frequency of the H63D
mutation was not different (p = 0.45). Three patients with GDM were
    homozygous for H63D (3.1%), 1 patient was homozygous for C282Y (1.0%),
2 patients were compound heterozygous (2.0%) and 26 were heterozygous
    [11 C282Y (11.2%) and 15 H63D (15.3%)]. C282Y and H63D allele
frequencies were not different between controls and GDM patients of
Southern European or non-European origin. Irrespective of the
HFE-mutation status, serum ferritin levels were increased in patients
with GDM compared to healthy pregnant controls (p = 0.01), while
transferrin saturation was similar in both groups. Conclusions: In
North and Central European patients with GDM, the C282Y allele
frequency is higher than in healthy pregnant women, suggesting a
genetic susceptibility to the development of GDM. Copyright (c) 2005 S.

Just so, those with the genetic disorder which causes abnormal iron levels
can have gestational diabetes. Even those who are not women and not
pregnant with this genetic disorder are at higher risk for diabetes, so
your logic and it's relationship to anything is not clear. We know people
without the genetic disorder do not get diabetes because of iron in their
diet, based on a large population study:

    1. iron level not related to risk level of diabetes

    2. iron from fish and poultry not related to risk

    3. bloodletting not related to risk of diabetes,ie. doesn't help or hurt

You are having a debate with a nut who thinks that iron is the cause of
most of human diseases. It's nice of you to refute his crazy statements
so that any casual observers won't be dangerously misled.

However, bottom line. . .you are having a conversation with a nut.

If ANY pregnant woman is reading the iron troll's [censored] for the
first time do yourself a favor and kill file him. He'll gladly
misinform you and then blame you if anything happens to your unborn
    child.

If you have "gestational diabetes =GD" then go to your doctor and
demand to be referred to a high risk pregnancy specialist who
specifically cares for GD patients. Also check out
    http://www.diabeticmommy.com and http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.org
and http://www.insulin-pumpers.org preferably in the order they are
    listed.

As a woman and child with GD, your needs are unique amongst pregnant
pairs and you should demand the best qualified medical help you can
    get access to.

Stay away from nuts and kooks and trolls like Tom aka ironjustice, he
    is a nut case.

There are plenty of women in the diabetes groups now who had GD while
pregnant who were type 1 or type 2 diabetics before getting pregnant,
who will be more than happy to help you as well.

  5. So .. Mack .. what you are saying is ..

"the article doesn't say anything about iron being found ONLY in those
    with gestational diabetes .. "

The article DOES SAY .. " elevated iron found ONLY in those with
    gestational diabetes .. "

You'd better watch what you say ..

It seems you are attempting to tell women NOT to worry about elevated
iron .. WHEN .. the article SPECIFICALLY states .. IRON IS A PROBLEM ..

    Don't much like .. live .. births ..

Since you didn't actually say .. anything .. about this thread .. I
decided to repeat the RELEVANT part ..

Those .. healthy women .. who did NOT .. get gestational diabetes ..
when compared to OTHER women who DO get gestational diabetes .. AND who
ALSO didn't have any genetic predisposition TO iron overload .. the
women who get gestational diabetes .. ALWAYS have INCREASED .. ferritin
    / iron ..

So attempt to .. twist / distort .. anything you want .. BUT .. this
article states .. iron overload / increased ferritin .. found ALWAYS in
women WITH .. gestationals diabetes ..

    You say .. "no link .." ..

    The researchers .. say .. "look .. a link .. !!"

I tend to believe researchers as opposed to a greasy fk like yourself
    ...

But that is just .. me ..

    But MACK believes ya ..

That is sort of like .. one greasy fk .. to another ..
