  1. Its been a while since I needlessly attacked a harmless section of society so I thought it was about time I got a few things off my chest that have ben buggin my [censored] to the point of madness…and todays unlucky contestants are….dieters.

Diet products and the people who make them really need to be kept in check. I know it’s a supply and demand thing, the products are there to fill a gap in the market., Lite Beer (bud, miller, coors etc etc), Low Carb chocolate, you know the stuff.

Most super markets have a low carb section these days where you can buy bread, pasta, cakes, you name it.

I am not having a go at diabetics or others with conditions out of their control. I am talking about fat people, fat greedy people.

Beer, chocs and cakes are luxury items. If you are trying to lose weight, don’t eat them!

And also, why the hell is the diet industry a ‘multi million dollar’ industry? If you want to lose weight, save your money, forget buying all these Korean pills, Atkins books and expensive snack bars and listen to your old mate MP.

Eat a low fat diet and do some exercise. Expend more calories than you consume. Rocket science it aint.

  2. Amir Khan has an amusing methodology. I couldn't help but laugh when he published his diet. Dinner would be a Big Mac and Fries. Tea was fish and chips from the local chippie or a kebab and chips from the kebab house.
He burns the lot of it off in the gym and it gives him more energy for boxing.
There was another guy called Sergio Oliva, a Cuban who did a similar thing. He lived on hamburgers, doughnuts, pancakes and ice-cream. yet he had a 28 inch waist and a 23 inch upper bicep.
I'm the same too. Junk food helps me. I throw in junk food with my yoghurts and fruit e.t.c.

You left out one important element Pro. A healthy life style takes effort and a lot are just to damn lazy to participate.
I know people that ask about riding a bike for excercise. I am always tempted to tell them about a quality bike and a good way to start but hesitate because I know they will only ride a couple of times through their neighborhood, a mile or so, and then come with every reason not to exercise.
    Too hot,too cold ,too wet,too dry,too busy,I don't feel good today.
So they might as well spend their 100 bucks on a nice little two wheeler with a kick stand.
I am delighted to work and support their eating habits through my contributions that will go to pay higher health care costs.
Besides they may hit the lottery and can go get it all sucked out.

  4. If i see one more fat chick sitting on the corner trying to lose weight by eating a low carb chocolate bar....i think i may just slap her.

your right Huskey, its all about effort and motivation..

i saw a book the other day 'lose weight with minimal effort and no exercise'.

    disgraceful.

i had a friend who was fat...down the pub every weekend drinking whisky. I said to him, doesnt that stuff give you a terrible hang over...he replies, yes but i am on the Atkins diet...

    crazy...

he also bought a mtb to lose weight. It lasted one weekend, he complained that he had a sore [censored] and couldnt sit down for a week.

losing weight should he easier...all this cycling [censored] is too hard work..

I drink diet soft drinks by the gallon, and the flavor of those things has gotten really good in recent years... truly amazing. Previously I would just drink water or coffee because Coke has so much sugar but now I can have 4 or 6 cans and they taste good and I don't have to think about calories.

So you tend to notice the fat chick with the low carb bar, but you might not notice the slender chick who lost 30 pounds with the help of those low carb bars. And you also might not notice the fat people who don't eat in public at all. I do know several people who have lost a lot of weight and some of them used Atkins type diets. So I'll join you in ranting against the lazy lifestyle and slothful attitude, but the diet products are a side effect of the problem, not the cause or the catalyst. And one of the side effects of being such a large problem is that they taste a lot better than they used to.

Am I right in thinking that dr. atkins dropped dead in the street. What did he weigh?

I am going to post a reply here because I am a diet'er...You are partially correct Pro, most people diet because they think it is "pill" cure to eat a few atkins bars, drink a few diet cokes and voila...But for those of us who have read Atkin's book and have nutrition coaches it is something totally different. I am on my version of the atkins diet because our society has become on of sugar/carbs for everything. Plain and simple 1,000 years ago our society's ate meat and/or veggies which contain very little natural carbs/sugars. Our bodies do not require that much carb intake to function. If you are an athlete your complex carb requirements are more but nothing like the average intake that most people in the world take in. Think about it, if you drink 3 cokes a day and eat a sandwich on white bread for lunch and have a steak and potatos for dinner you are looking at over 200 grams of Carbs. That is an absurd amount.

I have been on the diet for over 1 year now and it has become a life style change for me. I consume no more than 30 grams per day and on Saturdays (my cheat day) no more than 60. I also ride over 100 miles a week and am still losing weight. Over all I am down over 81 lbs since I started the diet.

Not all diet'ers are into the fad for the fad. Its just like cycling either it works for you or it doesn't after you have tried it.

i am really having a go at people who follow the idea that they can lose weight by eating chocolate and drinking beer with all the carbs removed.

Its like the ad you see on websites, 'LOSE FAT GAIN MUSCLE INSTANTLY' all you have to do is sit on your [censored] all day and eat this pill.

Turn on the TV and you are bombarded with 'Instant Abs' and the like. Just sit on this new contraption for 5 mins a day and have abs like this guy >> que picture of a body-builder 20 years into the sport....and they sell these things in thier millions.

The people selling the [censored] are ex-professional sportsmen and women....doesnt that give them a clue as how they got thier 'instant' abs?

    its a lie...

Ahh...Thanks for the clarification...In this case you are correct...They are all gimmicks if not used for quite a while...

  12. Get off you fat ass and exercise! Quit whining or suing fast food companies (they didn't force you to eat their [censored]) and do something about it.

Food for thought - many private interests stood to lose greatly if the Atkins lifestyle were ever to become too popular ... those private interests, namely, would be most food producers and distributors in the U.S.

    snopes.comatkins.asp

"However, Atkins' widow and Dr. Stuart Trager, the spokesperson for Atkins Physicians Council, both contend Robert Atkins weighed less than 200 pounds at the time of his accident, claiming "During his coma, as he deteriorated and his major organs failed, fluid retention and bloating dramatically distorted his body and left him at 258 pounds at the time of his death, a documented weight gain of over 60 pounds."

Thanks to his death certificate (as displayed at The Smoking Gun), we know Atkins was 258 pounds at the time of his death. Yet according to a copy of his medical records, as turned over to USA Today by the diet guru's widow, Atkins weighed 195 pounds upon admission to the hospital 8 April 2003 following his fall. He died on 17 April 2003 after having been in a coma for more than a week."

This is along the lines of macca1234(?) thread, no 😕
Incidentally, have you been attacking any mountains lately. I've been doing some road riding on my mtn bike & have gone up some real "widow-maker's" (big hills) on my trek y-22 & my friend rides his litespeed pisgah 🙂

  15. Dave and Mountain Pro, this is the hill I climb a lot to develop my stamina. I've published it before and it's actually more difficult than it looks. Only half the climb is featured in the pic.

How much verticle do you have on that climb?

  17. Not sure I understand the question 😕
First time I did it before I changed my cassette, it nearly killed me. I literally nearly died at the top. But on a granny ring you can get up it O.K. Obviously I have to stand all the way up and the worst, steepest part isn't featured on the photo. That bit is just round the corner.
This climb has claimed one or two lives. People were killed on the descent.

  18. Here is another angle on it. I can climb this O.K. spinning but in a big gear it is the height of suffering. In a big gear I make it by the skin of my teeth as it extends onwards past the corner in 2 sections.

I was curious as to how many verticle feet or km's you climb over what distance.

  20. We don't have mountains in my area as such. What we have is these steep hills that pop up and then go down. The area featured in the pic is very high up, though. Just a little further on and you're apparently in the steepest part of England where there's a small village.
But all in all, this is what I have to make do with - short, steep sections of road that take maybe 15 minutes to climb at the most before you descend.
