It's been a long time since I had my last Mountain Bike (Marin) and things have moved on a lot since then - noticed a company advertising on Ebay some apparent bargains - I won't post a link but can provide more spec if anyone is prepared to offer an informed opinion. The machines don't appear to carry a trade name but do have Shimano XTR components, 2 years gurantee and look well built and spec'd to me.
I'm currently living in Spain and finally have time to get back into a bit of fun off roading. The locally available bikes are generally [censored] or ridiculously overpriced. It seems that for the majority of folks, having the words "Mountain Bike" painted on the frame is the only qualification for a machine to live up to that title.
Would appreciate any more up to date opinions regarding these German built machines - or does anyone know of a Marin dealer who will ship to Spain?

Be very careful - there are a lot of scams on eBay and ISTR well-specified bikes are one of them. Never, *EVER* agree to any form or payment via direct wire transfer (Western Union, etc) - those are really meant for people to send money to relatives or close friends, and are easy for scammers to exploit.

There apparently is a Spanish distributor, don't know where the dealers are or what your definition of "overpriced" is.
Cheers for the response Mike, yes I noticed Marin do list an email for their Spanish distributor - still waiting for a reply after 10 days! Things are a bit backwards here regarding all things digital. Often when ordering items you get right through the form filling etc only to reach a "Thanks for your order, please phone XYZ to complete the process...." - very frustrating.
By chance I met a guy who bought one of the bikes from Germany - suffice to say, I've just put my order in!

That's certainly true - and while Í've never had a problem with over 200 transactions - I have a friend who's lost out on his first two "deals" and vowed never to use Ebay again!
Like most things, a little bit of common sense goes a long way.

'Bargain' mountain bikes on eBay may be real but are quite often scams.
