board. And if you get a chance call in to the shop at Bamford, IMHO, the

CCC Sheffield and Hathersage is a big Paramo outlet and for a paltry
£3 you can buy a discount card which entitles you to some big savings.

CCC is usually a good bet. But we were in there yesterday (the
Sheffield one) and they had virtually no Paramo stuff :-(

BMC members (like myself) get discounts in many hiking stores all over the
place. Have you looked on the Backpackers website for their discounts?

I have, but I can't find anything about it. I'd be surprised, though,

I just got a good deal from CCC, a viento jacket for £110, but i just
checked ant they've sold out. :-(( ..And i must say, it met all my
expectations up on Elidir Fawr yesterday, where the windchill was
particularly evil.

Still, I had to laugh at this 'technical' feature of the paramo trail shirt
found on the CCC website....

Anyway, i see they have Cascada troudser for a ton... I'm *very*
interested!! Anyone used these trews? Do they live up to the claim? And,
importantly, are they tough? I ended up descending yesterday over scree and
boulders (getting into a habit, .."hmm, this loooks an interesting way down
the mountain....."😉, mainly on my rs.

I've not used them yet but I've read loads and loads of great stuff
about them. If you do a search on this NG in Google groups you'll find
quite a lot of stuff about them. Try www.outdoorsmagic.com too: use
the search feature for all you ever wanted to read about Paramo, and

Yes, I have some and they are excellent winter trousers. I have been
out in snowy and wet conditions in them and they are waterproof and
(more importantly) warm and also very comfortable.

There is also a picture of me in the latest Paramo catalogue, but
that's another story.......

Many local shops IME give discounts to clubs: ask! Dundee Uni Rucksack
Club has one at Mountain Supplies in Perth tomorrow, 25% off. If you
don't ask, you don't get...

I am fully Paramo'd up now with not only Cascada trousers but also
a Cuzco jacket. Fab kit. I've been waiting years for something this
good to come along at this price. The trews are very comfortable to
walk in but it has to be quite cold for me to wear them. There great
for crisp, cold winter walks when Tracksters are just a wee bit too
thin and there is a good chance of the occasional winter shower. For
really heavy snowy stuff I'd still go for my slappies. I don't yet
have enough evidence WRT robustness. Its hard to imagine that something
so comfortable can be tough and to be honest I'd rather not have to
find out. If I was scrambling, not something that I would choose to do
in the pouring rain anyway, then I'd probably be wearing Ron Hills.

Simple matter of the Mountain Supplies shop being in Perth, rather than
Dundee. We (and other local clubs) have discount nights at Tiso's in
Dundee, but those are in October and around Easter. Tiso's have a
different policy for discount where they'll /only/ discount at the
pre-arranged nights, while Mountain Supplies will give a standard 10%
for local clubs and extra discount at specially arranged events.

Thanks for the update Pete; the Tiso's arrangement is the same here
and, as you'd expect, similar shops fill the role of Mountain Supplies
(Wildtrak --> <plug><plug> [nb.: no commercial connection twixt myself
and them ;-) ] )

Is the Mountian Supplies place in Perth worth a visit? It seems a bit
far from Dundee/area, must be worth it ;-)
