So what, the TTT is a big part of the tour.

That's not relevant because the tactics would have been different (ie. LANCE would have had to mark
both Mayo and Vinokourov).
Perhaps we should do GC without the TT and the Alps. Piil might be in the lead.

Dumb. LA races according to the time differences in the actual race, not the contrived one you
present. IOW, he wouldn't let Mayo go away if they were closer on time.

Not really. If there was no TTT, Lance would have had to respond to Mayo's attack in the Alps, and
the race would have been much different. Mayo might still be ahead, but things wouldn't be as you
indicate above.

Interesting. What would the standings be if they did the TdF without the bikes?
I think Lance would kick ass then 'cause he used to be a triathlete.
What would the GC be if they did the TdF under water?

So what, the TTT is a big part of the tour.
But is it too big a part of the Tour?
No.
TTT is cool. What do you want, another boring sprint stage?
BTW, it is way after the TTT and the coming week may be the best week of racing in the TdF
since 1989.

There is a mere 21 seconds separating 1st and 2nd at the moment. That's not interesting?
The TTT is cool.
Whether or not a race ends up being interesting depends infinitely more upon the racers than the
organizers. This year is interesting because there is no one person who transcends the rest.

I hope so, and I enjoy the TTT too, but they showed the stats on Eurosport today and it got me
thinking, what would this year's Tour have been even better without the TTT?

What would the standings be without the stage Beloki crashed on? I'm sure you could come up with
some vodoo math to give his projected times.

Well Tim I have to agree with you and everyone else about this silliness.
Steve should at least wait until the TDF is over. There are 20 stages, plus the prologue, so I
expect Steve will provide us a table at the end of the race with the GC for all of the 440 some
possible permutations, I think that's right (21*21-1).
Wouldn't that be endlessly fascinating - we could be discussing the possible results all the way
until the start of the next TDF!

When these statisics were screened today, Duffers suggested that perhaps the TTT shouldn't be so
long. He suggested 30 km as being a fairer distance... I'm tending to err on his side. Jan

There you go! Omnium style, points only and participation in each stage not required. He would still
be leading.
