If you can read german, try
de.rec.sport.laufen.misc and
de.rec.fahrrad via googlegroups. Some on drslm have even bought the new Garmin Forerunner 301.
Also discussions on Foretrex on drf.HTH

Afraid my German is very rusty. Generally speaking, are people happy? Was
thinking about the 301 to get HRM too, the other thing I was looking at was
the Timex Ironman with GPS & HRM - slightly cheaper but less features."Christian Volk" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

Bob,
Try http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/GarminF/
This will tell you all you need to know to make your decision. I have one
and within the limitations of any GPS unit it performs well. Many people
have experienced difficulties with the HRM me included but no where near as
badly as some.Graham.

I have a 201 (has no HRM). It works well enough.
I get a little frustrated when I pass under something that blocks the
line-of-site.I actually got the device to (also) do some lightweight geocaching with
my kids. It's does a fair job with that.Over time, I have become more & more of a training minimalist. I like
gadgets, but workouts are therapy for me. If I start overloading on
input, I lost that benefit. YMMV.rsquared
P.S. - One of these days, I'll even quit logging my worksouts. : )

If you read English, go to www.yahoogroups.com and search for the Garmin
users group. There is one for 201/301 users.I have one. What specifically do you want to know?
Some comments:
Very cloudy weather, thick tree cover, tall buildings and canyons can
disrupt the signal. Bascially anything that blocks the weak signal from the
satellites.Get the beta version of the Training Center from the Garmin website. It is
superior to the Log that is also available."Christian Volk" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

Does anyone use one of these? Any comments?I trained with one for a week about a year ago, and didn't like it. I
found features like the "virtual training partner" really tacky and
annoying, so I avoided using them. But then, I just run because I like
it.I used one when I was a pacer for the Gold Coast Half Marathon. The
setting where it beeps if you run too fast is a good one for a pacer.
However, even smoothing set to less or least, when the signal drops out,
it showed my pace was too slow, and I would speed up - not a good thing
for a pacer to do.I want a little wrist-GPS unit for when I go running in the forest, but
I'm going to get a Foretrex, because it has more waypoints etc. If you
can convert speed to pace in your head and like doing this, what do you
need a Forerunner for? I really found it more hassle than it was worth. However, my ex-coach swears by the thing, and has become absolutely
addicted to it.Tam

Thanks all.

I use a forerunner 201 and love it. No problems with coverage, etc.
I don't use all the features (like virtual training partner, etc.), but
I really love knowing how far I've run, tracking my pace, etc.I'd recommend it to anyone looking to track mileage accurately, etc.
