I met somebody today who is healthy and can eat and drink pretty much whatever they want to without any problem...except for garlic. That is, if they eat 2-3 large cloves of garlic then go to bed they will sleep really heavily, maybe on a badly twisted arm or neck at an awkward position. It can be so bad that they wake up in the morning with an arm seriously numb from near the shoulder right down to the fingers. Then for the whole day they seem to wander around as if on a large dose of tranquilliser. Is there any thing to worry about (other than loss of friends)?

Sounds like (GASP) an allergy to garlic. Poor, poor, human being. A life without garlic bread and other garlic delicacies...perish the thought...
------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Boobies, boobies, boobies. Everywhere it's boobies. Who needs em? I got along fine without them!"
my ex-husband developed a sudden allergy to garlic and onions...if he ate them he would, as he put it, "exude onion or garlic from every opening and orifice of his body"...he had horrible gas (both ends) and his sweat reeked....even his tears were smelly (i checked)...and he said he felt like he had a hangover for three days or so....he mourned the departure from his life of garlic bread and onion soup...

maybe he has a GI overgrowth of candida or something similar. The garlic kills the candida, the contents of the dead cells enter rhe system in a toxic Herxheimer reaction.
does he eat/crave a lot of sugar? -=- This message was posted via two or more anonymous remailing services.

This is nothing to to with allergies, garlic is supposed to make you smell like that. The hangover bit is what I find interesting...

Err... whats a rhe system? Whats a toxic Herxheimer reaction? Why not just accept that garlic makes your breath, and the rest of you, smell for a few days?
