  1. I've ordered nut butters from these folks before. They recently added
a line of chocolate nut butters, "naturally" and "organically"
sweetened with... cane juice (unrefined white sugar).

This wouldn't be so bad except they have freaking low-carb info all
over their site and nowhere is it clear what the ingredients and
nutritional info are for individual products. So you can't really tell
for sure what exactly has sugar in it and what is just a plain old nut
    butter.

I sent them this response via their web form:

    *****************************************************************************
Your site says... "Just enough organic unrefined cane juice. This
sweetener retains minerals and doesn't spike blood sugars."

Doesn't spike blood sugar? It's nearly pure sugar, how can it not
spike blood sugar?!? I'm diabetic, I'm not on a low-carb diet for
*fun*. I will *die* if my blood sugar spikes!

I'm also a trained biochemist, please explain to me how *sugar* won't
raise my blood sugar level? This is stupid.

It's bad enough not being able to buy food without freaking sugar
alcohols in everything, but you put actual *sugar* in it? For a
diabetic, that sugar is natural doesn't help, it's *poison*. The
sickest I ever got was from eating *tangerines* - you can't get much
    more "natural" than whole fruit!

Why not just add some cyanide as a "natural" and "organic" choice?

How can you *lie* about something that causes blindness, amputation,
    impotence, organ failure and *death*?

I need the actual *legal* nutritional info on your products. I've
ordered before, but now that I see you're putting sugar in some of your
products, I need the actual ingredient list and grams of carbs, protein
and fat before buying. Not the marketing stuff on your site, but the
    real, legal descriptions.
    *****************************************************************************

So... it's unlikely I'm ordering anything from these folks again. If
anyone has a good source for nut butters, please post to this thread...
I really do love having a variety of the things on hand and netrition
only sells one type (macadamia butter).

    Thanks.

Nuts + oil + food processor, there may be recipes somewhere on how to do it.

  3. I genuinely don't have time though. I'm a truck driver and only home
2-3 days/month, and between gardening, futzing online, and spending
time with family and pets, I just can't be making nut butters on my
    own.

I just wanna buy a bunch of various nut butters to bring in the truck.
    WITHOUT freaking sugar in them.

Markets like Whole Foods, Wild Oats market, Mrs Gooches have
more variety than just one type. Some chains now have an
organic-and-specialty corner that carries various types of
nut butters at varioous times. In Chicago metro Dominicks is
    the chain store to check.

I read that you don't have time to make your own. Don't try
it at all then. Homemade is so much better you'll be [censored]
at storebought for the next year. Been there, done that. The
recipe is simple. Nuts, food processor, turn on full not pulse,
time how long it takes your ears to hurt, that's the half way
point. At the half way point decide if you will need to add
extra oil. Then run longer but move out of range to save
your ears. Almonds produce excess oil so let it settle and
pour off oil. Brazils and hazels tend to need extra oil.

I haven't tried these folks because I can get mine locally:

    https://www.oraganic.com/default.asp?food_type_id=34&food_sub_type_id=41

They list the ingredients but I don't see complete nutritional info.

  6. Roger, that link was to raw nut butters; I've previously only tried the
roasted ones. How does the taste compare?

As for the nutritional info, if they list the ingredients, I can figure
out the nutritional info pretty much. I just got bent at the other
place cause they have pages of their site that claim their products
contain only nuts and sea salt, then this new [censored] with sugar in it and
the nonsense about it not causing bg to spike. I sort of cease
believing *anything* they have to say when they say [censored] like that.

I've always assumed that the nut butters I get are from unroasted nuts! So
I can't respond to your question - I'd like to know they answer myself.

Have you checked at Whole Foods Market? They do have several nut
butters in their bulk foods section (nut aisle). I'm not sure if
these are no sugar added (although I think they are), but there are
Nutrition Facts labels visibly posted so you could confirm for
yourself. If not, they would be very likely to carry packaged no
    sugar added nut butters.

Or perhaps Trader Joe's if you're lucky enough to have one near you.

  10. There's not a Whole Foods Market nor a Trader Joes nearby. The only
health food store in town has pretty much only natural peanut butter.
This is why I'm looking for an online source - and why I bought from
this company before they started advertising sugar as not causing bg
    spikes...

I *really* love having nut butters around... I eat them rarely, it's
probably been six months sicne my last order. But they are darned good
snacks when you want something rich...

My local grocery chains -- Harris Teeter and Kroger and Lowe's Food --
also have a natural foods section with natural nut butters.

I can dig it.....but this may not be possible. Check your health food
stores....but if all else fails, dropping a handful of nuts into a
blender with some oil and hitting the puree button isnt a time consuming
thing, really. At least you'd KNOW there was no sugar.
