Some time ago I put some funny stories about cycling incidents on my web

Does anyone have any more that they think might be interesting?

well, I think it's funny........
actually, it's more of a racing story
Many moons ago, I was racing B grade at Dunlop Rd, and I got myself into a successful 4-man break (one of the riders was a guy called John Fuller). Approaching the last couple of laps, it was obvious we were gunna win.
I was pretty naive at the time, so I didn't know what was going on when we all slowed down out the back of the last lap, and the other 3 guys started saying: "so, who wants to win and go up to A grade? Not me. Me neither. Me neither." Im thinking: "what the [censored]...." So I'm like: "ME ME ME ME ME ME ME...I wanna win -- I've never won."
So, the other three guys basically stop, and I take off to win with a "miraculous" attack. I collect the money and go home.
The following Thursday night I'm at the Carnegie velodrome telling my mate all about the "victory", and he says:
"so, I take it you split the winnings with the other 3 guys?"
I go: "WHAT? What do ya mean?"
He replies: "you [censored]! When that happens, you're supposed to split the cash. What did you think was going on?"
Turns out the other 3 guys didn't know how to contact me, were DEFINITELY expecting a cut of the 'loot', and had been "after me" for 4 days to get their money😄
I saw them the next Sunday and appoligised profusley as I handed them their cut. I don't think believed that I was stupid enough to not know the deal 😄
Does this still happen?

It's called a "joke", and yes it does happen, moreso at track races
though, in particular wheelraces. It tends to be pre-organised.

A joke is different to splitting money in a road race.
A joke is organised after the wheelrace heats, and the main aim is usually for one scratchie to catch the frontmarkers, usually with two or three people comepleting sacrificing themselves in the early stages (ie. You get Shane Kelly to do your first kilo, then he swings off and then the next guy does a few laps, until your sprinter only has to compete with middle markers in the final sprint). Agreeing to split the money in a road race in a breakaway is just a way of ensuring that the group stays away and the first four places are shared, rather than stuffing around and ruining all of your chances. Jokes are illegal (collusion), whereas I never heard of anyone getting finde for splitting prize money.
It's a serious offence to not pay up on a joke or splitting prizemoney. You'd only do it once, then find yourself getting ridden off the road or into the fence.

Ok, I thought they were the same 🙂

I've seen a very [censored] junior who didn't want to pay up as he 'only' got second and thought that the members of his joke shouldn't get any of the prizemoney.
