The first bicycle ride happened in Mannheim, Southwestern Germany on June 12, 1817. The first ever Cyclist is Karl Von Drais, a 32 year old Baron. His invention was called "Dandyhorse Draisine", it has two wheels and an upholstered arm rest.
He managed a 14 km trip in less than an hour.

It would be another 40 years when Pierre Michaux presented the next bicycle at the Paris World Fair.

The Guinness Book of world record certified a BMX measuring 7 and 3 quarter inches tall and 3 inches from wheel to wheel, as the World's smallest rideable bicycle.

The largest bicycle was built by Didi Senft from kolfin, Germany. It's 7.8 meters long and 3.7 meters high.

The lightest road bike ever built was originally custom-made by Gunther Mai in 2008, weighing at 3 kilograms. Gunther eventually got the weight down to 2.8 kilograms before it was sold to Fair wheel bikes who cut down the weight of this working uphill racer to just 2.7 kilograms.

The record for the fastest Cyclist in the world goes to Dutch Cyclist Fred Rompelberg. On Oct.3, 1995 he cycled behind a motor dragster on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah with a speed of 268.831 kilometers per hour (167.044mph). He was the oldest professional Cyclist at the time at 50years old when he made the record.

Wooden Bicycles are bicycles constructed mostly if not entirely of wood. Wood was the material used in the earliest bicycles and is being used by modern bicycle builders. The wood could be either solid or laminate.

The first Bicycle's recorded named variously as "Velocipedes, Dandy Horses and Hobby Horses" , was constructed from wood, starting 1817.

Recent technological advances in adhesives and fabrication have made wood a feasible choice in the modern cycle world.

Wooden bicycle frames are sometimes aided by steel or composite lugs to connect the wooden tubes or attach components. These frames can be made with plywood, hardwoods, or bamboo.

Mountain Bike Facts

It was not until the late 1970s and early 1980s that road bicycle companies started to manufacture mountain bicycles using high-tech lightweight materials. Joe Breeze is normally credited with introducing the first purpose-built mountain bike in1978.

This is truly huge money and one that can make me rich over night. However, I think that Armstrong deserves this for what he has done in tu world of sports in general. He has been that shinning light that many look up to and to see him recover from cancer was truly great. Let's see how things will go with this bike in the future.

Who invented the BMX Bike?
BMX stands for "Bicycle Motocross" was created in the 1970's as a cheap alternative to Motocross. It gained popularity in Southern California where riders started modifying their bicycles for urban and off-road environments.

The founding father of early BMX was Scot Alexander Briethaupt in 1970 whose prime competitive years were from 1970 to 1984.
Breithaupt—who was a teenage MX racer for Yamaha—set up organizational features around his races much as later sanctioning bodies did: rulebooks, a point system, a skill level structure, a racing season, trophies and promotions of special races that were the prototype for Nationals. He produced the 1st California State Championships in 1972.

Breithaupt adapted these structures from motocross sanctioning bodies such as the AMA, CMC and AME, as would other pioneers like Ernie Alexander, [founder of the National Bicycle Association (NBA)] and George Esser [(founder of the National Bicycle League(NBL)]—both of whom, like Breithaupt, had roots in motorcycle motocross as racers or promoters. Breithaupt was the first to do it in BMX, at the age of 13.

The Cheapest Bicycle in the world is the Alfa, invented by Izhar Gafni and is made out entirely of cardboard. It weighs 20lbs, yet supports riders up to 24 times its weight. It’s mostly cardboard and 100% recycled materials, yet uses a belt-driven pedal system that makes it maintenance free. It’s designed to be manufactured at about $9 to $12 per unit (and just $5 for a kids version), making it not only one of the most sustainable bikes you could imagine, but also the cheapest.

The Mountain Bike was invented in 1977 by Joe Breeze. He welded the first custom heavy frame intended for downhill racing, thereby successfully producing the first true mountain bike. Breeze made the bike for his friend Charlie Kelly, who is usually considered the person to coin the term "mountain bike."

Giant Manufacturing Co. Ltd. is a Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer that is recognized as the world's largest bicycle manufacturer.

I don't think people look up to him anymore after the doping fiasco... People nowadays don't even remember he used to have cancer, they just remember the scandals.
