Last night, small 'do'. I cooked a meal for M**** and my daughter, who
brought the OS 2 Tracklog thingy.

I got Tracklogs 25K Dark Peak and Manchester to plan my Tameside Trail
fun. It just so happened that they had just released the new version
with the CROW access land marked on it so it is very easy for me to be
able to identify the open bits.

As you say they are not cheap but it is very much more convenient than
scanning maps and I quite like the Tracklogs interface. Just need to get
out of the office more now!

I must get out of the house more! I had one planned over
Hollingsworthhall Moor, but it seems daunting until I get fitter.

I like a little loop from the parking space at the north end of the
Walkerwood res dam. Go up the res road to Upper Swineshaw, across the
dam and stay on the track bearing right through a kissing gate. Up to
the tree and turn right. That path is a bit muddy in places (stepping
stones in the worst parts) and leads up to a looooong field (marked with
a permissive footpath on the 25K but not much of a path on the ground)
which you follow to a stile near a gate at the highest point of the
field. The path is now obvious and takes a trip over a knoll before
becoming boggy and dropping down to a saddle (boggy in places).

A slightly energetic wobbly style leads over the fence onto a good path
to the top o the hill.

From the top you can descend directly west but it is grim - better to
take the track south and turn right at a cairn just past the pylon. Once
you get down to the farm the track contours round the hill past the old
rifle ranges from where it drops down to the south end of the dam.

    But you knew all that!

How did you send me the tracklog of the plan.

    email ;-)

    Do you 'export file'
    from Tracklogs?

Yep. Not tried importing them though. I'll send you the export of the
above if you like, and the one over Harridge Pike...

I'll have to play with it, handy for swapping walk
    ideas.

It is I expect if you know others with Tracklogs. GPSBabel does not seem
    to do Tracklogs format yet
    http://gpsbabel.sourceforge.net/capabilities.html to allow translation
for other packages but that might change in the future.

With the reversion to GMT (or whatever you call it), dusk arrives too
soon for day trips to the Dales really, so it'll be local stuff now
    until Spring.

Aye it gets a bit dark now.

Darren was a bit more helpful than my earlier reply - file, save as with
    the relevant route/track selected.

Does that make me an anti-knocker? Heaven forbid ;-)

At home I put it in a binder with an A4 page of photos from the walk
as a reminder (usually between 4 and 9 photos on a page).

Good idea. I've often wondered about converting my walking diary into
some kind of hard copy printout, with perhaps route map and a few
photos. Now I have a more definite idea of how to lay it out. Thanks.

20 years of photo walks and another 5 of non-photo walks (perhaps a
thousand or so walks) will take some time to complete though, so maybe I
need a 5 year plan to do this. Say if I convert 4 walks per week...

It would be very handy as a hard copy photo index, and of course I need
to select and scan all my best photos anyway, so I'd be killing two
    birds with one stone.

    Slacker. :-)

I was out of bed at 5.15 this am in order to start walking at 8.
Finished at 1.45 which proved long enough in a strong cold wind. I think
it must be the first time ever I have worn my overtrousers throughout as
protection (for the knees) from the cold rather than the rain.
