Personally not of this software - but we do use Anquet (covering an area
from just south of Leeds up to mid Cumbria/Northumberland at scale 1:50000)
which we found at a reasonable price very similar to the one you have
quoted - I believe from mapkiosk.com.

In our estimation this works well and prints in good quality at A4 (zoomed
if necessary). Just don't forget that if printing on inkjet though they will
run when it rains or gets sweaty hands all over it.

I have also loaded a map of my local area to my PDA, and have used it for my
Garmin too to plan and download routes etc.

I do believe that they are all very much the same (Anquet, MemoryMap and
Fugawi), but no doubt that someone here will have experience of both the
others too.

I seem to recall that the height data in Fugawi is less accurate than
Anquet or MM. That might explain the price variation. This may not be an
issue for you but is certainly worth investigating before purchase.

I would suggest getting evaluation copies of each product to see you are
happy with the user interface, facilities, printing etc. first. Of the ones
I tried, MemoryMap drove me mad, whereas Tracklogs worked very well. I
don't recall anything either way about the others. YMMV

I weakened recently and bought the whole of Britain for £155 from
Mapkiosk (mapkiosk.com).

I don't have a PDA and haven't used Fugawi enough to become familiar
with printing but had some difficulty in persuading it to print the area
I wanted the only time I have used that facility so far.

I have used it with a laptop. VG. if you draw around a hill, staying on the
same
contour, it gives a big variation in ht.

Apart from that it is good. I have scotland. the stats, 3d view are good.

Bought it to use with a MIO168. When it drops below 200 pounds.

I use Fugawi v2 Midlands and North Wales.
I have used it on Palm Tungsten t3 and pocket PC, it is great and I
never go walking without it.
Easy to use, upload maps and routes and tracks to PDA download tracks
when you get home.
I use a Bluetooth receiver and with a battery extenders they will last
for as long as you feed them batteries.
Although the maps are only 1:50,000 I get on well with them, they
print out fine and I am just surprised that Fugawi is not more popular.

I'm gonna buy a 1gb SD card for my digital camera but can use it with
the MIO as well. FUGAWI screenshots fro MUNROS and MTB routes.
With the odd euro sity streetmap for hols.

Certainly elevation data resolution was poor (to say the least!) on version
1. I was very disappointed in it. However, the current version (v2) seems
fine to me. I have both versions 1 and 2 for the whole mainland UK so I can
vouch for the improvement in v2. If you want good data, avoid v1 which can
sometimes be found on eBay etc. My main reason for upgrading was better
elevation data ( I'm not into 3D fly-through views, which v2 also added - a
bit gimmicky for my needs.)

I've had no problems printing maps, nor interfacing my GPS with v1 or v2 of
Fugawi.

The add-in CD of aerial views are OK but expensive, and stop at the Scottish
border. You need 3 CDs to cover England and Wales, but it integrates well,
as does the street add-in, which is reasonably priced.

Ok,draw a track around a hilltop using the same contour all the way. Then
plot
the profile. You will see how bad it is.
