It didn't sell!

Relisted with a lower minimum bid, and lower postage. I don't
know why I listed postage at £3.50, it seems a lot so I've
reduced it so that it basically covers costs and no more.

Making extra money so you don't have to pay ebay I saw recently a game starting at 99p, but postage was £10 (for a cd!), baasically you either get people who don't factor the postage into their bid so pay more ('hmm that's cheap for £30, I'll buy that' followed by 'damn, now I'm paying £50 to get it deleiver as well, and could have bought it at lbs for £35'😉, or simply bit at £1, and only pay ebay commision on that amount.

My point exactly.

I've just not bid on item explicitly because the guy was asking 16 quid
(plus 6 pounds insurance) for an item worth 'only' a couple of hundred
and not that heavy.

I did tell him that and he just suggested I buy from elsewhere.

What a lot of people don't realise is that as well as post and packing,
there can be costs in actually getting said item to a post office, as
well as the time spent actually packing the item and getting to/from
post office.

There are some unscrupulous people out there that hike up postage by a
lot, but it does get wearing when people assume all they should be
paying for is the cost of the stamp on the front of the box/jiffybag etc.

It would have cost them if they'd had to go to the shops to buy it,
after all! (Ok, not very much if cycling, but that's beside the point).

eBay's policy allows for postage, packaging, and time to take
the item to the post office. They do not allow unreasonably
high postage costs for obvious reasons: they make a commission
on the winning bid value, and that excludes the postage
charged, so artificially high postage is not permitted.

Actually I'm making a loss at the postage rate I'm currently
offering for 2nd class, at £2. It's 1.48 plus recorded (65p)
which is £2.13. This makes no allowance for time or packaging.

In the case in question, this was a grand total of £1.37. It would
save about 8p in eBay charges to have this as postage rather than
on the bid.
