frustrated with the WTC

Recent actions by WTC has frustrated local triathletes and residents of the Big Isle. It first started with the firing of Sharon Ackles, then shunning Keauhou Triathlon, now dragging their feet on the Big Isle Qualifiying slots. Last month WTC stated that they would reveal a new qualifiying system for the Big Isle residents. Well...we're still waiting and growing impatient. Don't take us for granted...remember you need us more than we need you.

Recent actions by WTC has frustrated local triathletes and residents of the Big Isle. It first
started with the firing of Sharon Ackles, then shunning Keauhou Triathlon, now dragging their feet
on the Big Isle Qualifiying slots. Last month WTC stated that they would reveal a new qualifiying
system for the Big Isle residents. Well...we're still waiting and growing impatient. Don't take us
for granted...remember you need us more than we need you.

I recently heard that the Blackwater Eagleman (a Hawaii qualifier for many, many, many years) will
also be "shunned" by the WTC next year
(2005), and that the WTC will organize a race of it's own in a nearby area to replace Eagleman. I
believe the reason to be that the WTC wants to OWN all the qualifying races so that THEY make
all the money. Eagleman is a great race and Race Director Bob Vigorito puts on quality races.
Regarding the Big Island qualifying slots: the WTC employees probably started celebrating the
holidays early (around the time the decision was supposed to be posted). So now that the holidays
are over and everyone should be back at work I am sure something will be posted soon.

Yes, I did see the new race. I find it very inconsiderate of the WTC to schedule a race two weeks
after the Keauhou 1/2 iron. That makes the triathletes have to choose between the two races. I don't
know of many triathletes who can race at top form two weeks after a 1/2 iron.
It makes me feel like Wtc is looking to put Keauhou out of business. How sad and uncool! There
aren't many triathlons in hawaii and to schedule a race so close to another only reinforces WTC's
poor attitude toward the community. Yes there are 55 slots but it smells of a cheap payoff for all
the recent screw ups. Come on WTC grow up and conduct yourself like an adult. Not like a school yard
baby trying to buy everyone's affection.

Sure does, doesn't it. With a lot of their races selling out in a day I dont think they really care
about pi--ing off the athletes right now.

As similar thing happend after Roth (IM Europe until 2001) 'left' WTC. The first year (02) the new
IM Germany was in August. But then they anounced that IM Germany was on the same date in 03 then
Roth always was. After some (nasty) arguing and discussion the races are now one week apart. As much
as I know Roth is now one week earlier than 02 and before (not sure about this).
But this showed me that WTC tried to 'destroy' QC Roth. Fortunately QC Roth survived and is
better than ever (or at least the same). Because of this I won't race IM Germany. I will do QC
Roth this summer.

Yes I agree. The WTC is doing the same here in Hawaii. It is unfortunate that the WTC is so
vengeful. It only hurts the triathletes and the community. I have made many good friends from
Germany because of Ironman. It makes me very disapointed in the WTC. The good will prevail and
Keauhou will survive.
