difference between a fruit and veggie? sometimes i'm in the
store looking for something, and i mess this up (i.e. was
looking for pumpkin in canned fruit aisle)

From a culinary perspective, a fruit is eaten raw while a
vegetable is eaten cooked. Thus, a tomato can be both a
fruit and a vegetable.Explains why good nutrition is an art, rather than a
science. The organization of a food store is designed to get you to
spend more money than necessary.Just thought that you might want to know. 🙂

Mostly tradition provides the difference. From a botanical
point of view, a fruit is that flowering part of a plant
holding the germ,ie. seed, by which the plant stores
nutrients for reproduction. Veggies are any other part of
the plant, some of which in some plants also reproduce but
don't flower,ex. potatoe. Tomatoes are fruits as are pumbkin
and cucumber etc. which are often spoken of as veggies. I
speculate tradition makes something we hold in hand to
eat,ex. apple, as fruit and those really fruit but eaten as
cut up parts as veggies.Quoted message said:

``To the best of my knowledge and research the definition
of fruit is:The ripened seed-bearing part of a plant when fleshy and
edible. In other words, a "fruit" is any fleshy material
covering a seed or seeds. Most fruits, from a
horticultural (science of cultivating) perspective, are
grown on a woody plant, with the exception of
strawberries. Or you can say, generally a fruit is the
edible part of the plant that contains the seeds. So your
eggplant, tomato, cucumber and zucchini are fruits. To the best of my knowledge and research definition of
vegetable is:A herbaceous (green and leaf like in appearance or
texture) plant cultivated for an edible part, as roots,
stems, leaves or flowers. Or you may say a vegetable is
the edible stems, leaves, and roots of the plant. Some
people think rhubarb is a fruit, because it is used to
make pies. But, rhubarb is a vegetable.''- comevisit.comdefinitionOpen ↗

Why is mystification the goal of all science geeks?

vegetables are fruits (pumpkin) fruits are usually sweet and
vegetables are often savoury. Not a strict demarcation. -
