  1. 60 yr old somewhat overweight, with fibromyalgia - doing my best to exercise and lose weight.

I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. It hangs around 150/80 but I do get out of breath
very easily, too easily, upon exertion.

I was given lasix which has helped a little, but I gather, not enough.

I have an allergy to sulfur.

I also have fairly severe GERD which affects my throat and vocal chords.

The cardiologist (who I don't know very well and seems very arrogant and dismissive), wants to put
    me on an ACE inhibitor.

I am frightened of these drugs because of: 1) my allergy to sulfur and 2) I already have problems
with my throat and voice and they seem to often cause coughs and pharyngitis.

Do I have reason to be frightened? Should I request another form of blood pressure medication?

    TIA

Would suggest that you would do better if you ask your doctor about the 2PD approach:

I am no doctor but i think your doctor is correct. Actually your blood pressure is NOT that high at
60 and i doubt if you need medication at all. The upper limit may vary depending on when you
meansure it and whether or not you have good sleep. There is nothing to be frightened about ACE
inhibitor. If one kind does now work, try another kind or try it with hydrochloridediazide.

    Again, i am no doctor.

    heartmdphd.comwtloss.asp

Then again, you could ask your doctor about the 2FD approach... he'll probably get a big laugh
    either way.

I developed the Two Foot Diet approach (2FD) as a replacement for Dr. Chung's Amazing Logic Defying
Two Pound Diet to avoid having to carry a scale around.

Inspired by Dr. Chung's scientific approach, as described on his website, in 2003, my wife and I
attended an IMAX film about climbing the Bavarian Alps and learned that despite their exhausting
regimen, the climbers consumed only 10 packages of wieners per week. That's less than 2 feet of
wieners per day! Since none of the climbers died from starvation, I think it is safe to assume that
2 feet of food per day should be more than adequate for us non-climbing folks.

So I started a little experiment with the agreeable obese friends in my neighborhood. I gave them
ordinary 6 inch rulers with instructions to measure the length of everything substantial that passed
into their mouths. The only things exempted were water and sugar-free drinks. What I learned was
that my obese friends were consuming between 8 to 12 feet of food per day! At the time, I was about
10 lbs. over my ideal body weight so I decided to find out how much I was eating per day... 3 feet.
I cut back to less than 2 feet and was at my proper weight in one month.

My friends have responded similarly except they have taken longer because of having to lose more
weight. Admittedly, some of my obese friends were especially slow to respond. They also happen to be
the ones with an unfortunate propensity for accidentally loosing their 6 inch rulers and taking
    weeks to buy replacements.

So here's the deal: measure all the food you eat, using it's longest dimension, and keep the
total length to less than two feet per day. That's all there is. No scales, no counting calories
or carbohydrates. Heck, if you loose your ruler, you can even use the first joint of your thumb
    to measure.

I am making this diet available as a public service and without compensation.

If you have any questions, just see Dr. Chung's helpful FAQ and substitute "Two Feet" for "Two
Pounds" everywhere... what could be simpler?

Saw my doctor today and he insisted it didn't matter if I take an ACE inhibitor or an Angiotensin
inhibitor. Since I expressed some concern about the possible cough with an ACE inhibitor, he said he
would put me on an Angiotensin inhibitor and insisted it really didn't matter which I take.

Apparently, the major finding at this time was "hypertensive response especially in recovery and
marked exercise intolerance". It is believed that this is in response to prolonged high blood
    pressure (moderately high).

There is no blockage and a very very small leakage between the upper and lower parts of the heart on
both sides. It was referred to as "suggestive of a relaxation abnormality".

Doctor shrugged and asked which drug I would prefer to take along with the 20mg of Lasix I am
already taking. He then went to my insurance list saying he'd see which the insurance company
"prefers" and denied that any one drug might be better for me than another.

I was given Cozaar 25 mg/day plus the 20mg/day of Lasix I'm already on.

    Questions:

How long would it usually take until I feel the difference from taking the Cozaar?

Does it really make no difference whether I take an ACE Inhibitor or an Angiotensin inhibitor? Or
    which one?

Doubtful. Folks are more likely noting the splendid demolition of Chung's self-serving description.

Both of you poor guys mistake showing up your idiocy and fraud with anti-Christianity. As though you
embody what is central to Christianity. The arrogance of that view is most assuredly not what Jesus
