For those of you in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic areas, have you seen
Friendly's new low-carb menu selections? We ate at their restaurant in
Williamsburg (VA) today and it was great! I had spiced grilled chicken with
melted cheese, served with broccoli on the side. It was ample portions (two
chicken breasts) and very filling. Then, incredibly, I had their new
low-carb hot fudge sundae for dessert . Listed as 11g of carbs; it consists
of two scoops of Slenda-sweetened vanilla ice cream with sugar free hot
fudge (Splenda sweetened also), topped with whipped cream and almond
slivers. It was an incredible treat and a great occassional carb bargain!
Other menu items included a 1/2 pound bunless burger with cheese, lettuce &
tomato and broccoli on the side; a 10 oz sirloin steak with the ubiquitous
broccoli, low carb soups (chicken and cream of broccoli), several different
entrée salads and more. Besides the low carb hot fudge sundae, they also
had low-carb vanilla ice cream on the dessert menu.
Not for induction -- about 20g of carbs for the meal - but OMG what a treat
for anyone on ongoing weight loss or maintenance. I couldn't afford the
rather high calorie density of the lc hot fudge sundae every day, but for an
occassional low-carb splurgeit was heaven!
I just checked their website (www.friendlys.com) and they do not have the
low-carb items listed yet, but they are in the restaurants. They have a
special menu insert that lists the carb counts of each low-carb item.
