Perhaps the difference is Landis isn't arrogant, or that the impression I get of him anyway.
If he's on the top step in Paris, then he'll finally have something to be arrogant about. Then we'll see the real Landis. However, from what I've seen of him over the years, he seems like a quiet, unassuming guy.
Besides, the headbutt itself was cool. How many times do you get to see a guy flattened by a headbutt to the chest? I've never seen that before. Too bad the FIFA ref consulted video - it would have been even better to have Zidane stay in the game and score the winning goal in the shoot-out.

Not at all.
One of the problems with soccer in the US is that your average American sports fan views it as a sport for girls and children. A little graphic violence can't help but dispel that image. The incident has gotten a lot of coverage on regular and sports news programs and even on late night TV. As they say, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
BTW, the WC Final had huge ratings in the US, which were higher than any of the NBA Final games and all but one of the last World Series games. Nothing impresses the US sports establishment more than ratings. Perhaps soccer is about to replace ice hockey as the US #4 sport.
