  1. I am the only one left at home that still enjoys a grilled hot dog and
although it is only a minor inconvenience it is still somewhat of a
hassle to grill just a couple of dogs for myself. I like to put them in
eggs or beans or even salad. I would like to grill up about a package
at a time and then cut them up and freeze them. How do they hold up for
texture and taste after they have been grilled and then frozen. Nuking
them by defrost or a cold thaw in the fidge which would be the least
    offensive. TIA.

  2. I've never frozen a whole dog but they seem ok when cut up as part of some
other recipe and frozen. Then I just use the defrost on the microwave.

I would freeze them before you grill them. Then you can grill the frozen
ones, and they'll taste great.... that is if you have good dogs.

  4. I think the point was not to have to fire up the grill just for one or two
    dogs.

  5. The point was to save them after they are cooked.

Just broil them - it's not that different from grilled wienie. i can't eat
boiled ones - yucko. I always broil them on aluminum foil a few inches from
the fire. At least you don't have to go out and grill.

A grilled hot dog that's been refridgerated then re-heated in the microwave
just isn't the same, i've done it with BBQ leftovers. i can't see freezing
    helping it out any more.

  7. Well, it wont cost much to find out.

For thawing, I'd think a cold thaw in the fridge will be better than
    nuking.

You might consider getting a Food Saver---one of those thingys that suck
the air out and seal food in an airtight boilable, nukable, freezaable
bag. I use mine practically daily and the best application for them is
exactly what your wanting. I buy Bubba Burgers that come two in a pack,
frozen. I grill both, then put the extra one in a Food Saver,
suck-n-seal, then freeze it to be heated later. I notice when I nuke to
re-heat them, they get kinda dry and weird. However, tossing the bag
into boiling water for a few minutes re-heats fine and tastes just like
    fresh-grilled.

I dont like to cook every day, so often, when I do cook, I make a
double or tripple meal, eat one and save two on paper plates sealed in
the Food Saver "bags". Back into the freezer for a home made low-carb
    "TV dinner".

If you are inclined, you could grill a sozen at a time, bag and freeze
    them.

In the meantime, tho, I'd try grilling a few, wrapping individually in
saran wrap and freezing. What have you got to lose?

Me neither. I usually just freeze the tail, ears, and sometimes the paws for
    soup stock.

We've grilled various meats and frozen it in meal sized portions with one of
those vacuum sealers. Worked out great. I don't think we've done hot dogs
like that, but german sausage and hotlinks.

Cut the package open, nuke at half power, and don't overheat it. Seems to
    work great for us.

    That's the way *I* would go :-)
