This is just your standard "terms of use" clause, Google for a similar
phrase and you will get so many hits you will need to upgrade your computers
memory to be able to handle all the results.
Every serious website that allows people to download files from it will
include this or a similar clause on its term of service. This is because it
is literally impossible to guaranty that the file you are downloading can't
be injected with a virus by a malicious person while sitting on the website
or during its transfer to your computer. It would be an extremely hard thing
to do but it is possible.
This clause is not there because we are trying to get a way with purposely
harming your computer by injecting a virus on it, this would be illegal.
Just because a company says that they are not responsible if you die because
of the use of their products does not give them the right to purposely
include a bomb in their product to kill you.
Further more, our setup files are signed using a code signing certificate
(http://www.instantssl.com/code-signing/). This is clearly indicated when
you run the exe. A company does not qualify for a code signing certificate
that easy, you have to show proof that you are legit. This also adds another
level of security by making it extremely difficult for someone to tamper
with our files.
Lastly, the address and phone number are not listed because they are not
necessary, we have enough problems with spam just by posting our regular
emails on the web. The software is free so phone support is not justifiable.
If we wanted to scam anyone, we would have searched around and found some
bogus address and post that address, sheeesh.
