That's a Kona Smoke, which should be in the Asphalt section of their bike
line up. Cute looking short haul commuter.

I've seen various racks like the ones on it at a few places around Sydney.

Sounds like you need to check out the SKS range of chromoplastic mudguards.
Used to be known as ESGE about 15 years ago. They are made of a thin peice
of aluminium, covered with plastic. This makes them quite strong, light and
flexible. If they get snagged by a stick or bent they will bend back
usually, rather than shatter or crack.

Whereabouts are you? If in Melbourne, you'll find these at St Kilda Cycles,
Abbotsford Cycles, Cecil Walker, and quite a few of the more discerning
LBS's around the suburbs. Saw couple of pairs for only $58 (a good price) in
the shop in Castlemaine on the weekend.

Good mudguards do make a difference to commuting comfort in the wet. No, I
guess you can't be from Melbourne, we've all forgotten what rain is this
spring.

I've used an SKS raceblade on the front for a few years, a quickmount
minimalist design that suits me. Being a clutz, it took me a while to
get it right the first time. Now, its 10secs + a quick adjust so my
feet stay nice and dry. It then stays perfectly positioned all season.
Plus it has a lovely gloss black finish.

About 550km from Sydney ;-) Northern NSW so I'm used to mail ordering
if I can find what I want and someone to mail order it from. I emailed
Kona USA and they replied that they're just generic fenders that my LBS
should be able to track down no problems...

Correct, I'm a loooong way from Melbourne. We haven't had much rain
here either, and you can be sure as soon as I do get some mudguards it
won't rain for at least 7 years.

I recently bought Jet Cycles in Kelmscott, WA - no, I'm not using the group
as an advertising forum. If I have something people are looking for, I'll
mention it - that's all. Does that meet with an OK? I bought it as a
lifestyle choice, not to make squillions (one squillion will be enogh :-P)
and to get more people on bikes. If I wanted big bucks I'd stay in my
present job in mining...

I had a poke around in the back of my shop and found some Giant full
fenders. They look like the Freddy Fenders but don't have the mudflap. I've
got some in black plastic or in aluminium.

However I too recommend the ESGE/SKS mudguards. I can only find black
ones here in Melbourne. I like the old ESGE silver ones. They are around
$70.
