Hello,
My trusty Raleigh Royale has broken - the droptube has sheared through
(see bottom of post for picture). As I understand it, I have three
options:
i) buy new bike
ii) buy new frame
iii) get frame repaired
ii and iii both involve a cost to have the bike stripped and
re-assembled, but are both substantially cheaper than i) (and besides,
I like this bike!).
Bob Jackson Cycles have been recommended for the repair, as have Argos
Racing Cycles (who are more expensive). I have a few questions,
though:
Are there any gotcha's that I might miss in arranging for the frame to
be repaired (I know re-spray will be an additional cost, as will lugs
for the gear-shifters)? Anyone else I should be thinking about getting
a quote from?
Is a repair likely to be a good solution, or does the fact that one
bit of the frame's failed mean the rest may give up in short order?
If I wanted a new frame like my current Reynolds 708 (no longer made),
what would I go for, and how much would that cost?
Thanks,
Matthew
