    over over over under

    repeat as needed

  3. asked ILL for a Schraner copy.
Van dan Plas may have instructions. Google books gives four pages of
VDP cross four but no Schraner for search 'bicycles cross four'
    de riguer right?

for how to lace a wheel???

    I don't know.
    I was whining about 29er's
Chalo suggested a Redline Monocog would modify to a 24 speed Monodog.
So at season's end I spied several MO bargains, including the Cog and
decided a new and only off road touring bike/go to market bike was
rational. Getting seen by the animals I study while riding hither and
    yon is essential.
One supplier, of wheels, spokes, tires and gubbins sent the 4X lengths
( and they'd better be) with the wisdom: WE DO ALL OUR EXPEDITION
    WHEELS FOUR CROSS.
who am i to argue? A thickness, sophistication spectrum exists. Like
yawl not gonna argue that right? So between Walter Lightspeed and Joe
Yemen and little billy, future moto champ, there is a place for 4X
    Expedition.
Instructions? Butt off course: reinventing the wheel is fine but when
a finished product is necessary, a lack of instructions gives heavy
probability to leaving someth out. then you grovel and whine about
doing it over and does it matter. More of a PITA than doing it over.

An interesting moment. the space coast is in the NE summer weather
stage. Our now weather, the first cold blow of winter (79) is the
wether people in the NE want but never get. Every day is the eternal
never die always reborn day of youth.

It also brings down the first wave of well paid leggy models beating
    the rush.

    GUESS WHAT THEY'RE RIDING!

gotta get the Dog together and throw it in the back of muh new van.

that's a whole different issue. there is arguably a small increase in
spoke elasticity with 4x since the spokes are marginally longer. but
i'd need some convincing as to whether it's useful.

to lace 4x, simply make sure you have 8 holes between the spokes in the
initial pair you choose to lace. if you want, position the hub label
between the two uppermost hub holes and align it with the valve hole in
the rim as your starting point.

I think the animals are returning the favor by studying gene. 😉

  10. tom,

by canoe, I visited a vulture rookery, then whistled doppler whistles,
low pitch flying away, high pitch approaching. several years of that
before I rode past a vulture on on the median just outside the park
where I live. I fed him a hot dog.
Guess what? I am in with the vulture crowd.
Vultures shadow bomb me riding, swoop over the truck's windshield, and
fly up to me at the wind break at the dunes, swoop left and turn swoop
back with the updraft just a few feet away.
Rangers tell me Turkey vultures are realtively tame and intelligent,
    good natured.
    they fly like armstrong rides

The last time I was watched closely by turkey vultures was on a hot,
humid day when I drank too much water with too little salt intake. The
resulting hyponatremia made my cycling rather wobbly, and I think they
were hoping for a meal of cyclist.

When turkey vultures fly, they have lots of carrion luggage. (Yeah, I
    know, keep my day job.)

  14. interesting and agreeable advice from Sheldon Brown - 1997

It's a damn shame that, in the mid '60s, the British cycle industry
adopted 36/36 spoking. Previously, British bikes generally used
    40/32,
    a much more reasonable system.

The usual setup was to build the 40 spoke rear cross 4, and the 32
    spoke
front cross 3. This usually allowed the same length spoke to be used
    on
    both wheels.

I'm convinced that part of my problem was due to the wheel having been

    Quoted message said:

built too loose. Feels like time to try building my own, on grounds
that I don't think I could do any worse. (I've been tuning my own for

    Quoted message said:

years.) As long as I'm doing that, feels sensible to go for more
    spokes.

I'm sure you're right on all counts. Have fun!

1995 onward to now where posters show up [censored] about the second 32

    yeah, strange isn't it.

What does this have to do with turkey vultures? Have any cyclists
stranded by wheel failure been eaten by vultures?
