Fork maintenance? - '02 Marzocchi MXR!

Did you do the initial oil change, after (10 hours? 100 hours? whatever)?

Does the oil need changing?

Wiped the stanchions down with some silicon lube occasionally? That helps
with seal life and to keep the action nice and 'plush'.

There's not much to do, to be honest - I've had to change seals and bushings
on mine, but I'm sure that's my own fault anyway, apart from that, damned
solid fork needing virtually zero attention.

See, this is where it gets fuzzy. How the hell do I know if it needs
changing? Any weird noise or feel that I should be on the lookout for?

I'll go ahead and do that tomorrow, though they have pretty good
motion on them and the seals seem solid.

I figured I missed some typical scheduled maintenance, but from the
sound of it, if it works - ride it until it doesn't. 🙂

Uhhhm, should give hours of use per suggested oil change in the manual/on
the web site.

Another way, take off a top cap, dip a stick in there, drop some oil on
white paper, compare to colour of new oil. If it looks really dark or full
of crud compared to the new oil, then do a change. Or, if you have new oil,
just change it anyway if you wish. Can't do any harm!

Aye, but it seems to make a difference. Best stuff I used, is that silicon
spray, for lubing car door seals and rubber trim etc. Auto store stuff.

More or less! Just don't leave it forever between oil changes, and wipe the
stanchions with silicon lube every now and then, and RIDE!

Mine have received absolutely zero maintenance since I bought them. When
they stop working I'll bin them. Yay for our disposable consumerist
society!

I wasn't actually serious. It's true that they've received no maintenance
and that I am too lazy to do any until they start underperforming, but I'm
not really going to bin them. If I do get new forks to replace them at any
point (unlikely to be till '05), I will donate the old ones to you.
