It really doesn't matter. One day either way isn't going to make younger an aging body.

Or rather: "Lance is toasting." In next week's issue of "Tele 7 Jours", a French TV guide, there is
a good picture of Sheryl + Lance who is holding a glass of wine.

Lance will be one of the subjects of a French TV show this coming Sunday, on M6 on Sunday, at 8:50
    pm m6.frindex.shtml

Speaking of which, the Alpe d'Huez stage of the 2003 Tour got a 59% share of the viewing audience
    in France.

That's a bold statement. Care to back it up with some facts? Is the new team that good?

Or, are you just a rabid Tyler fan? If that is the case, I do not blame you in the least after his
    absolutely stunning performance last year.

  8. Or maybe he is off training on his own and goating us all into thinking he is getting lazy and not
interested in winning. Let the opponent think its going to be easy and they let up a bit and pay
    for it later.

  9. Myabe he's not training that hard because he knows from the way he feels it's already over.

Maybe he feels he's declined so much there's no way in hell he can win, and just wants to give it a
    shot to see what happens.

Interesting ... so he plays it like Alpe de Huez a couple years back ... like he's having a rough
day ... only this time he does it for the entire first part of the season.

Assume training increases fitness at 1% per week, and eating Krispy Kreme's loses fitness at 2% per
week. Lance missed 1 day of training. This corresponds to a loss in relative fitness of 3%/7 =
0.43%. Over a Tour of approx 90 hours, this corresponds to a loss in time of 23 minutes 8.6 seconds.

    Basically, it's over.

First he wants to quit this horrible Marlboro habit he picked up in the off season.

Personally I think that lance has such a lifetime achievement award that it is really tough for him
to add anything during the aerobic period. Maybe can put 1-2% back on during that period, then maybe
another 1-2% during the LT phase but lets face it he tapped out the limits of his physiology all he
really needs to (or can) do is sharpen whatever dullness he acquired during the racing season and
    his time off.

It really might be that when Lance et. al. went back and looked at his schedule that he was
overtrained. Simply that they had trained him in an attempt to keep him improving and this year they
realised that it ain't going to happen and that they can have a just as physiologially fit athlete
and a much more mentally fit athelte come July with less training.

Maybe someone like Andy can talk about this but it seems to me that there is a certain Newtonian
logic to this. It also seems logical looking at what I know of physiology, simply put, to stress
your body enough to keep it at a certain level of fitness is much easier than it is to stress it
    into adaptation.
