    Would like your thoughts,
    Anyone out there know this road bike or have any issues with Giant?
    Giant TCR alloy 04 (I'm a day away from dropping cash)

    I've got only 1400$ US to spend (I realize it's not much)
    a few things it is/has;
    frame: ALUXX SL double butted aluminum, Compact Road Design, Integrated forged headtube
    fork: Giant Composite aero straightblade, 1 1/8", alloy steerer
    derailleur Front: Shimano Ultegra , Rear: Shimano Ultegra
    derailleurshifters Shimano Ultegra STI, 9 speed
    cranks: Shimano Ultegra, 39/ 53 T
    pedals: Time Impact
    handlebar: Easton EA 50 26.0mm
    stem: Giant Composite/Alloy 26.0mm
    headset: FSA Integrated, cartridge bearings, 1 1/8"
    brakes: Shimano 105
    saddle: Selle Italia Flite Trans Am, leather, Titanium rails
    seatpost: Giant Composite w/ micro adjust, 27.2
    rims: Xero XSR-2 20/24H Paired Spoked
    hubs: Xero XSR-2 20/24H Paired Spoked
    tires: Michelin Pro Race 700x23c
    cassette: SRAM PG-950 12-25T, 9 speed
    spokes: Stainless Steel, 14/15G

    I've been off the road for a number of years (feeling uneducated), I'm looking to get back on the road.
    Is this the best I can do for the price?
    I've ridden the bike and it fits nicely but I don't know anyone who has this bike so I haven't got any positive or negative feedback from riders.

    lemme know the good, the bad and the ugly.

    Who you buying it from? Sounds like an OK bike, Giant is an OK company, Shimano is an OK company..... so.... Do you trust the seller? I personally wouldn't dream of plunking that kind of cash over the internet or at some sporting goods mega store becuase if something goes wrong... then what?

    If you trust your local dealer then just buy it and ride.

    I'm getting the bike from my LBS
    they offer free tune ups as long as I keep the bike
    they've done a good job so far sizing it (riding it was like butta)
    they've had good reviews from other riders (as far as the shop goes)
    I realize it's not the best (got on the TCR composite 2 as well, would be getting that if I had the dough)

    good questions and good advice; 'just buy and ride'

    For the money, sounds like you've got a nice light frame with some decent components. As it's your LBS and they're offering a good after-sales service, I'd go for it!

    I bought an OCR1 from my LBS a couple of months back for approx $1150 (in UK so roughly equivalent to £660 sterling w/ pedals) and have been well-pleased with it, so for that extra $250 I'd definitely pick it up if you've tested it and are happy with the ride feel (most important aspect here!).

    and congrats on your purchase, glad you're enjoying your ride

    I did get the giant just a few days ago
    I'm still working out the minor adjustments to get the bike to feel like an appendage (if ya know what I mean)
    but I'm definitely happy with the decision,
    good bike for the $

    Zotma, I've got an 2003 TCR that I bought precisely because of its excellent value -- some of the racers and shop guys I hang with steered me towards it, and I've had nothing but great rides on it with no problems.

    All of the usual praise applies: it's light, stiff, the geometry is agressive and yet fairly comfy, and so on. I'm sure you'll be happy with yours in the long run as well.

    lokstah, good to hear about your continued enjoyment of the 03 TCR.
    yeah, you gotta love it when the guys in the shop are excited about the bike too (I had the same experience with the steering).
    I'm excited too...new bike afterglow is a good thing...mmmmm.

    btw...noticed you're in the bay area. loved it for riding (I'm from those parts but now outta state).

    Yeah, it's lovely. I live and work in Berkeley; on my lunch breaks, I ride up into Tilden Park and then back down again.

    On weekends I go up into Napa and St. Helena.

    you're on a nice side of the bay
    (with a great lunch ride)
    I went to school at CCAC oakland
    but mostly rode 9/skyline/Santa Cruz mts./South Bay rides
    (grew up on that side of the water)
    LOVE Napa rides for sure....
    miss it all
    will be back to ride soon

    Hey, those are nice rides too. It's great how much accesible, scenic (and challenging!) hillside pretty much encircle the Bay. From Sonoma to Santa Cruz, you can't go wrong.

    too true about the ba; you can't go wrong
    it's riddled with good rides
    the hillclimbing is candy out there
    you'd have to be crazy to get bored
    but I don't miss the wet/rain
    I'm in extra double dry-ville now (desert AZ)
    just have to make sure you have plenty of water
    and avoid the cacti

    You lucky dog!! I've been out in CA in that general area and coastal hwy 1...awesome for cycling
