  1. Fans against doping is an iniative from Germany where i have posted about before in other threads. They have a website which soon will be translated in English as well. fans-gegen-doping.defans-gegen-doping.de

In Switzerland there is another iniative. Fans ride 100.000 k's with a black band around their arms:
    doping-protest.comdoping-protest.com

I am not sure these are the right iniatives (although i like the Swiss one) but i will think about what i can do to let the beautiful sport of Cycling survive and i will do anything in my power to change the whole corrupt system. As i am angry (again), sad and shocked at the same time i can't think of anything right now but maybe other users on this forum have some thoughts.

I could support ideas by infrastructure (web), translations, pics (databanks with thousands of cycling pics) and in the new season i (& others) will set up peloton.tv (was already planned for may 2005 but we postponed it due to some technical problems and the build-up for a bigger network of correspondents).

    Any ideas?

You could, um.. create a wall of shame on your website where you put all the guys who are caught. And members could like post humiltating photoshopped pictures of the rider making out with Lance Bass or put their head on richard simmon's body.

Damn that would be a loooooooooooong list!!

  4. I thought about putting pressure on the governing bodies (UCI & co) and was serious..

  5. If it were possible, to find a team dedicated (truly) to keeping dope out of the sport... then generating a lot of support FOR that team would send a strong message.

Especially if you could get said support reported on in some of the major cycling sites/periodicals.

I'd certainly support such a team..jerseys, bibs.. hats.. whatever. I keep saying.. money talks, but frankly I'm not sure WHERE it should do the talking.

I will keep it in mind and discuss it with some people here (money, sponsor possibilities).

After the Festina inquiry of 2000 the French Federation took steps to eradicate doping which have worked. The UCI and or other federations have to follow the same methodolgy. This time they have to do it. The UCI has to enforce riders to provide DNA from hair, urine and blood once a month to be tested and marked into a database. Its the only way. Then if the rider acts alone they will be caught. The UCI need to enforce rules on federations that if any 2 riders of the same country test positive in one year that all cyclists from that country are banned for one year. Its the only way to save the sport now. They have to do it. I spoke to a friend tonight who likes cycling but is not a massive fan. He doesn't understand what is going on but now thinks the sport is just stupid and throws Ullrich, Basso, Armstrong and every other rider into the same bucket.

The question is how develope pressure to get the French rules everywhere, how to force the UCI to implement those rules..

I may be remembering wrong (confusing teams) but aren't they REALLY about "the right to life"?

  11. I think I am confusing teams. We were discussing this very issue on a thread a few weeks ago.. and a couple of teams names came up. One of them, mentions they're against doping (of course they all do) but the real message is anti-abortion if I remember correctly.

I'm not saying that's a bad message, but the thing we're wanting to stress is NO DOPING (right?). In that sense, it seems to be me that it would need to be a team that is actively agressive against it.. ie.. it IS what they're all about.

I remember that and i think Lim came up with that team (i also forgot the name). I will ask him.

I asked Lim: Amore e Vita run is the name of the team. I will collect some information about them tomorrow.

  14. Amore e Vita are an Italian team.

As a cycling team, they have an explicit anti-doping policy.

Amore e Vita also express other views about lifetsyle and moral choices etc.
I am advocating AeV solely in terms of cycling and their anti doping stance.

AeV advoate principles on many issues - apart from cycling.

Just in terms of cycling only and anti-doping, AeV are explicitly anti-doping.

In fact, their manager Ivano Fannini has campaigned for years about the corruption of the UCI and the peloton.
The UCI dismissed him as a crank and a reactionary.
Which is pretty typical UCI reactions.

Amore e Vita is PRIMARILY about being anti-abortion. All the other bits like being dope-free are add-ons that help with publicity sometimes. They also like to hire ex-dopers so they can look like they're reforming people.

I am discussing AeV in terms of cycling and anti-doping.

Their policy is explicit in terms of being anti-doping.

In relation to hring ex-dopers, that is a loaded charge.
In the first instance, Ivano Fannini has been castigated by the UCI because Fannini alleged that the UCI were doing nothing about cheating in the peloton.
In 1997, he said and the UCI called him a crank.
Events have proven who was telling the truth, since.

Second, many riders have gone to AeV because of their non-doping policy.
Michele Bartoli's nephew, Bruno is tha latest rider to join them because they have a strict policy.

All ProTour teams have a strict, explicit anti-doping policy. Maybe AeV takes theirs more seriously, I don't know. What would they do if Bruno tests positive, suspend him?

Hiring busted dopers is not a loaded charge - Manzano, Simeoni, they tried to get Millar even. They promote that image of themselves.

But Fanini's mission in life is the anti-abortion agenda (and to a lesser extent the entire conservative Catholocism platform).

Promoting AeV for their anti-doping stance is like backing Bush on the basis of his school lunch program.

  20. Let me ask the question another way....

What is their PUBLIC image. When Cycling News, L'Equipe, whomever hears/reports news regarding this team.. are they the "anti-abortion" team, or the "anti-doping" team?

To put "our" support behind them for their anti-doping policy and thereby hopefully change the apparent importance of the issue to sponsors, teams, and the UCI... I think the message has to be clearly "anti-doping", regardless of what else they support.

Would the fans be perceived as supporting anti-doping, or anti-abortion? or...
would it be unclear as to which one?
