Food Timeline....

Interesting. I'd be curious about the introduction of foods
that were on the market briefly and then WEREN'T sucessful.
So while it's interesting to me note that fig newtons have
been around since 1891 (a snack food that I don't eat often
but have liked), I wonder about some other cookie that
people ate and that no one has heard of now. This list
makes it look like all the good stuff is old and all the
recent introductions are horrid. (Granted there are
exceptions, but compare baking powder with purple ketchup
and you get the idea.)

see a commercial for a food product, it generally fails to
impress me. Products I see advertised are either the old stand-

anyway. That is a marketing ploy, not a genuine improvement
on or variation to the product. It seems to me like the
majority of "new" food products advertised are just
different colors, a different box, etc. but no real change
to the actual product itself.

their failure.

The only contemporary one I can think of is a microwavable
milkshake that was on the market for a little while in the
late 1970s or early 1980s -- the idea was that you kept it
frozen hard in its little carton, then nuked it just enough
to make it slushy.... Remember those?

I have in the other room a bottle of a drink called Orbitz.
It is clear with suspended orange spots in it that must be
somewhat solid. I've never felt the least compunction to
drink it but bought and saved it because it was so cool
looking. I haven't seen it sold for a while and guess that
it wasn't successful.
