I love bread. When did humans start eating wheat? I find it odd that
wheat should be part of our diet. Anyway, i think people should stop
mouthing off in this group and abide by the pyramid.

The romans brought agriculture and grains to northern europe about
2000 years ago. Agriculture goes back, at the very most, about 10,000
years. It is only about 400 years ago that we've had any significant
amounts of sugar in the diet. It is only in the last 100 years or so
that we've had refined white flour. And only in the last 30 years that
we've been consuming ever increasing amounts of high fructose corn
syrup. These time-lines are miniscule compared to the millions of
years that man has evolved without agriculture and these refined carbs
and grains.
The pyramid was put together by the US dept of *AGRICULTURE*. Their
interest is not primarily good nutrition but in agricultural
*profitability*.
Feel free to eat this [censored], the american corn and grain farmer will
appreciate it.
OTOH, those of us who are actually interested in good nutrition will
create our own pyramid. Here is one that I can recommend:

Except that the pyramid is under final review for major changes. Here
is a pointer to the Harvard School of Public Health website where they
talk about some of the proposed changes:

You will notice that white rice, white bread, potatoes, pasta, and
sweets have been moved to the top of the pyramid. Whole grains and oils
are now the foods at the bottom of the pyramid, resting on a base of
exercise and moderation.

It's also worth noting that most of the bread available today is made very
differently to how it use to be. The manufacturing process not only destoys
most of the nutrients in the grain it also adds plenty of additives,
preservatives and fats.

Yeah, bread was around when Jesus was alive.
