The gov Food Pyramid site www.MYPyramid.com offers to assess your food
intake so I logged on yesterday, entered personal info and started to detail
my food intake as required. It accepted Salmon okay, but very slowly, then
I tried egg, but it told me the page couldn't be found so I left. Today I
tried again, but it told me my ID and password didn't match, altho' I had
checked them carefully. So, I asked it for my password but it then gave me
some tech gobbledegook about an error having occured. So I've given up.
Anyone else get this to work, and if so with what result?

Anyone else get this to work, and if so with what result?it worked when i logged on yesterday - possibly all those foreigners
like me logging on is keeping you from logging on!! :-) well,
according to what they say I should be eating:6 oz grains
2.5 cups veg
2 cups fruit
3 cups milk
5.5 oz meat and beansand i should eat at least 3 whole grains a day and less than 6 teaspoons
of oils a day. they just ask you about your gender, age, and activity
level. since there are 12 different pyramids, my guess is that they
have two age categories (adult and child), 2 genders, and 3 physical
activity levels. 2x2x3 = 12, thus 12 catergories! -

Heaven forbid we forget to eat our grains. Better eat those darned
grains. Grains are essential. Grains, grains, grains......TC

an assessment of what you actually eat. I thought it would be amusing to
see what it thought since I eat no grains, fruit, beans or other starchy
vegetables and only use milk in tea or coffee. -
There were several other reports on here by people who couldn't get it
to work either. I couldn't even get to the beginning of it. NBC news
had a story last night about the pyramid and how confusing it and all
the recent govt health directives have been. I think the whole thing
is useless and nobody is going to pay much attention to it.More than the food pyramid, I'm astounded that the CDC completely
revised what they were saying about being over weight. For years they
were saying that even being a little over weight was bad. Now they say
that the mortality rate is higher for those at the recommended weight
than those modestly above it. How the hell is this possible? All this
data must be readily available and is so basic and measurable, so how
do they account for the change? Then, in one fell swoop, they also changed their estimate of the number
of Americans that die prematurely from obesity. They had estimated it
at around 400,000. Now they say it's more like an order of magnitude
lower. Unbelievable. Then, you have idiots running around trying to justify whatever cause,
that use figures put out by these clowns for things like deaths due to
air pollution or second hand smoke. They can't even figure out if
people over weight by 10 lbs drop dead sooner than those at "ideal"
weight and yet they come out with all kinds of allegedly valid data on
stuff that is virtually impossible to correctly attribute. This is a serious problem. Pretty soon, no one is going to pay
attention to any of this [censored], no matter how right it might be. For
example, given the above, why should we believe advice on cholesterol?
Or the recent lowering of blood pressure guidelines, where 120/80 is
barely acceptable? Is any of it valid? Or is it driven by the quest
to get more people on drugs or just incompetence? Any way you look at
it, it's not good! -

Any way you look at
it, it's not good!Yes you really have to choose carefully which of the government
recommendations to take seriously. I've never paid much attention to the
food pyramid other than for light relief because the process is so
politicised. And when I was a kid I was told that eggs, butter and olive
oil were good, so I've never believed otherwise. I think the BMI is
[censored] for a couple of reasons: if you're grossly overweight you know it
from looking in the mirror and you know it's bad for you coz of how you feel
(been there!) and if you're about the right weight for your age, build,
musculature etc. then you know because you look and feel pretty good, and
one size doesn't fit all. Per the BMI I'm overweight, but my body fat % is
around 10 because I spend a lot of time in the gym. The study done by some
university recently said that was it 56%(?) of the NFL players were
overweight: sure there are some like that but nowhere near the % quoted;
what they should have measured was body fat. The list goes on, they keep
moving the goal posts for BP and cholesterol, but as you say, what influence
do the drug companies have on this? So it comes back to taking personal
responsibility for lifestyle decisions rather than taking the word of the
bureaucrats. -

I'm sure many of us in here would be reprimanded for our food choices.
But exercise wise we would all get very high scores. Yesterday exercise
wise I scored a 100!!Milk - they're recommending us to replace water with milk. Another
thing is that they want us to substitute meat with beans. Suppose if
the new pyramid gets people to eat a broader variety of food instead of
gobbling down tons of starch/carbs, that would be a good thing. Tilting
the pyramids to the side should encourage people to eat a more balanced
diet, so that people won't be over doing one particular group of food,
which was the case with carbohydrates in the past. -

Anyone else get this to work, and if so with what result?I was able to get it to work.
However, it ws a lot of work to do so.
The instructions weren't very good, and the user interface isn't real
user friendly. In inputting my activity levels, it wasn;t easy or logical of how to
input SLEEP.Luckily, there was a search keyword location, and I was able to add
sleep to my frequent activity ist by finding it through the keyword search. The scroll menu thing is misleading. It doesn't really scroll through
the itemized list. In order to scroll the itemized lists, one had to
highlight an item, and then one could use the UP and DOWN arrow keys.
The scroll bar thing on the side wouldn't actually scroll through the
listed activity items.I would say that if they listened to complaints, they could do a real
good job on the second version. Not too uncommon for some web sites.

At least now the grains are now almost on equal footing with meat/beans
in terms of weight, unlike the old chart. It's not very clear what and
how much people should eat though. Cups, why use cups as measurement
units? I know most americans measure their cooking using cups, but it's
so messy considering the different mass of different veg. After I posted the last post, I am rethinking why they're tilting the
triangle. They used to have this triangle because they want to stress
the importance of eating grains. Now that they recommend something
else, they either have to acknowledge that they've been wrong all these
years, or they can tilt the triangle to make the change less obvious.
Sounds like a conspiracy theory, doesn't it?? I wonder what the diet
gurus are saying about this change. I'd like to be guided to the news
and comments if anyone has found anything they're found interesting... -

Let's hope that's the case. Good going about sticking to it for 20

Therefore, one would want to input SLEEP.
Since you are answering almost all replies to this posting, it appears
you have no need to SLEEP.--
