I am going to take part in the London to Brighton ride this year. Can anyone please give me advise on the best foods to eat for the few days before the ride and also what to have whilst riding it? Many thanks. Ian

I did the longest race of my career last year in Pennsylvania, the Wilderness 101. I usually follow a lower carb diet. Basically I do not eat alot of them, but still keep the energy in the body. Three days prior to the race I started taking in 600 calories a day of bread/pasta. The night before the race I had chicken with pasta and veggies(but not too many veggies), mostly pasta. For breakfast, day of race, I had a banana and bagel. Just prior to the start I tackled a Power Bar. During the ride I took in alot of Hammer Gel, 2 flasks. They had 5 checkpoints with food through-out the race course. I ate at least a banana at each rest stop and a PB&J at every other. I also nibbles on Power Bars though-out the course, finished 3 of them. The biggest mistake that people make is after the race. You have to carb load all over again. Your body is very, very depleted. I went out the night to an Italian place and had all the bread and pasta I could eat. I took in a higher amount of carbs over the 3 days following the race to help the body get the stores back up.
I will try to find some of the websites that I found for endurance rides.

Oh yeah, I have read that rye bread helps the digestive tract stay normal. So that is mainly the bread that I eat prior race day.
