folding bicycles

Depends on your budget:

- Dahon is cheapish, folds well, rides tolerably.
- Brompton is dearer, folds well, rides surprisingly well
- Moulton is separable not a folder and rides like nothing else in the world
- Airnimal costs Real Money(TM), folds acceptably and rides like Lance's bike :-)

just been looking at Bromptons & i know i would pay 500 quid plus for a 6 speed machine,your
comments about the moulton,do you mean they ride the best?

The Moulton is a full-suspension lightweight bike, beloved of audax riders. It is a thing of beauty.
The NS Moulton in stainless steel is so light you have to tie it down at the cake stop, but it costs
some major wad.

I don't know anybody who's ever been disappointed by either the Moulton or the Airnimal. Or the
Brompton for that matter. On balance I thik I prefer the Moulton, but that's entirely subjective and
may well be down to Sir Alex having been a friend of Issigonis :-)

May I put in a word for a R&M Birdy Blue. Any small-wheeler does not lend itself very well to very
bumpy off-road. However, Birdies have full suspension, which helps a lot, and the Blue has 27 gears,
whereas Bromptons and many others have only up to 6. Last season I rode a 45km off-road course with
two MTBers (good fire trail standard, mostly) and finished well in front of them :-) Often I go up
the running/skiing track on a local hill. Some places one has to be extra careful, like slick rock,
but usually it works well.
