Kenny Labbe wasn't available.
I wonder if this isn't a favor to provide exposure to Robbie's
new coaching business. Much like LANCE's relationship with his
'coach'.

if he's on phonak, all he may be riding is crits.

The odds are that he'll be moving on to another team like Gomez just did.

Floyd's main focus are the GT's. As of yet, the big 3 are not included in
the Pro Tour. And in case you haven't noticed, Phonak has appealed their
exclusion in the Pro Tour to the International Court of Arbitration for
Sport.
They will likely win that appeal and Landis will still be their GC man in
the Tour. Landis will not move to another team because he won't get the
kind of money Phonak is already paying him. It's all about the money. End
of story.
As for the Robbie Ventura coach thing, it's somewhat funny how a made man
like Landis would all of a sudden need a coach, albeit a crit specialist
from half way around the world where it's winter 10 months out of the year.
I would say that if you can climb with Lance like Landis did in last year's
Tour, you shouldn't be fixing something that ain't broke.
I wouldn't look at it as anything more than an endorsement. I seriously
doubt Ventura is telling Landis how many miles to ride every day. I also
believe coaching should be banned because it is a performance-enhancing
method.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe R. Ventura was primarily a crit
specialist because that's what he was best suited for, and that perhaps
he may be a very well qualified coach/trainer with a wealth of
knowledge on fine-tuning a rider's strong points and fixing a rider's
weaker points?
People post out their ass here all the time --
especially the ones who think because they made it to Cat. 2 or 3 then
they are experts and can criticize negatively. They are FOOLS.
IGNORE THEM.
Those sorts of people could not hang even one lap at USPRO.

In any case those who can't always seem to post here as the real experts.
Sort of like the 5'6" 275 lb guy telling Mohammed Ali how to box.

Yes, it has occured to me. But rarely is coaching something as precise as
you say. It's an art. And at the elite/professional level it's more
about lifestyle, genetics, and money than coaching.
How is Robbie going to coach Floyd from Illinois - he's going to send him
emails?
"Ride faster Floyd...ride harder..atta boy."
The guy's already done the Tour, what, 3 times? He needs a coach now?
That's like sending Steven Spielberg to film school.
Obviously this is what most new coaches do - they piggyback on some
successful pro as a marketing gimmick - the real money is from all the
Cat. 3's and 4's who see the otherwise meaningless affiliation with
'coach' and Landis and then run to the ATM machine like a woman who just
walked by a shoe store.
You too can ride just like Floyd if you buy my system. What you call
coaching, I call marketing.

Not another crit pro.

You are ignorant of the facts concerning coaching of top-level riders.

Emails and phone calls are fine. I know a very good coach who coaches one of
the top Italian riders from 6000 miles away. It's the coach who prescribes
the training. The Director Sportif is the one who sets the rider's race
plans.

How do you know he didn't have one before, probably associated with his
former team, and now he'd rather get coaching from his former teammate and
friend than from his other choices.

Perhaps there is some "marketing" in the way you describe it, but all those
3's and 4's could receive benefit from having a good coach, regardless of
who they may associate themselves for "marketing".
It's interesting that you have provided a clear example of what Ken and
Kenny mentioned.
