Floor pump recommendations ?????

A pretty reasonable pump. Joe Blow just means about the same as "Joe
Average." But use this simple test: is it the good cheap $20 pump like
the one at Nashbar? If not, just buy the cheap one.

Ignoring aesthetics, I'd choose one based on how it performs.

I use my bike pump to top off my car tires too. The Topeak Smarthead
works very well for fitting onto car tire valvs, including shorter ones
that are partially hidden by a hub cab. Most other bike pump heads
aren't so good for that.

I also like a pump that puts out a lot of PSI per stroke, and my
Blackturn TP-3 (home pump)does that better than my other pump, a Topeak
Joe Blow Pro (office pump). I combined what I like about the two and
put a Topeak Smarthead on my Blackburn and that works out great.

Either pump works fine, but Topeak's pressure gauge markings make no
sense. They put an even number of markings between each 20psi marking,
so to put in say 90 psi, the needle is in between two markings. Even
worse, try putting in 35psi. I know, close enough is good enough, but I
actually have to think about what I'm doing to put the same amount in
multiple tires as on a car.

As for "the cheap ones", given a choice of a cheaper or even free Joe
Blow Sport and paying for a Joe Blow Pro or the equivalent Blackburn,
I'd pay for the latter because they just work so much better.

As I've posted here many times, my personal favorite is the
Performance Hurricane. Since Performance has a "no questions asked"
exchange policy, and the L-ist of my LBSes is a Performance shop; I've
been through so many Hurricanes I've lost count. My current one has
just started leaking through the air chuck (a common problem) so I'm
about due for another new one. ;-)

You're certainly right about that. I'm about to return my third
Performance floor pump. It's not that I like the pump. In fact, I
think it is a piece of [censored]. It's only a good pump for the first 30 or
so times you use it. Then it starts leaking. After 100 or so uses it
is leaking so much you work up a sweat reaching 120 psi.

But as long as they keep exchanging it I can't complain too much. I
should just learn to exchange it earlier.

The nozzle head on the Blackburn sucks. I agree with the $20-$25
range
as being the sweet spot.

pump-- and a 12v for the car -- all you'll need to get air in a presta

Interesting. I am curious about your source for a durable electric pump
that costs less than $20 and can reliably push out 120 psi. To be
precise, I am skeptical.

The ones I have seen exist in some sort of bike-inflation sour spot:
they're either expensive, can't push out bike tire pressures (and I
would consider 140 psi enough, but most of the $20 pumps claim 160 psi
inflation, which some obsessive trackies like), or they are very slow.
Or they can be all three.

These compromises work fine when pumping up a car tire, because those
need low pressure and high volume, and would take a good long time to
pump up with a bike pump. But they're not so good for bicycle tires.

Just buy the darned $20 pump and be happy,

I've got a Wrench Force floor pump that I've used for several years
with good results and no maintenance. The gauge is pretty accurate,
too. I've got a Topeak Road Morph that is the best carry along pump
that I've ever used. Their products have always worked well for me. I
don't have any experience with the particular pump you are referring
to, but I'm willing to guess that it's a quality unit.

In the time I can see it would take *me* (not saying anything about
anybody else) to get the pump, plug it in, setup the Presta adapter, I'd
already have finished pumping up both tires on my bike with my Blackurn
TP-3 w/ Topeak Smarthead. It takes literally a minute or less for the
whole job when I'm just topping off the tires before each ride.
