  1. Can I change my flat bar road bike front derailer from the Shimano FD-
    R773 to a Dura Ace 7803.
Both seem to be compatible with the 30...39...50 chain ring set which
    I have.

Not quite sure if it will work with the Shimano R770 rapid fire
    shifters.

    Thanks in advance

Not compatible. They have different cable pull ratios.

  3. Ok thanks Hank

  5. As mentioned, Dura Ace pull is different.

What is it that you want to accomplish? Throwing money at a front
derailleur is rarely a solution, but proper set-up often is.
parktool.com has clear directions for setting up a front derailleur.

  6. I'm buying this bike that had a compact crankset.
I got the bike optioned up with ultegra triple.
He has sent photos of the bike & it has an Ultegra triple front
derailleur, with R770 flat bars shifters.
I'm a nwebie to the bike scene, and I don't really want to tell him
    what to do.
I am yet to pick up the bike.

He says it all shifts and works fine.
What would be the down sound of this set up?
The cause of the differnt pull ratios will do what exactly?

Have you actually tried riding the bike? I've tried setting up bikes
with similar shifters and an Ultegra front derailleur, and it doesn't
shift onto the big chainring. The front derailleur hits the stop
before the shifter ratchet clicks into position. For me, the older FD-
R443 front derailleur solved the problem- enough that I put one on my
    wife's bike.

  10. I am going to pick up the bike tommorow.
He says it all works fine except not being able to get the top 3
largest cogs while on the largest chain ring.
This is a separate issue with the rear derailleur being a short cage.
Anyway I guess all will be revealed tomorrow. The only pain is this
derailleur is not as common to buy as the Ultegra or Dura ace series.
Cant find one for love nor money on ebay. The bike shops want to
charge me more than its worth to freight it to Australia.
Believe it or not I can buy a Dura Ace 7803 delivered cheaper than the
    FD773-2.
    Thats life I guess.
Anyone got one they want to swap for a brand new Ultegra triple?
