FL Ironman Online Registration

up, but when I realized they would only take cash, had to drive 2.5 hours
to my home and sign up online. I made it with hours to spare. Of course,
they fill up faster every year, so you may be a touch safer at te race
site. Just bring cash if you intend to sign up there.

BTW, I highly recommend showing up the day before the race and
volunteering if you're going to make the trip anyway. Short of actually
doing the race, it's as close to the action as you can get, and the best
feel for the mechanics of the race (where transition is, how you get you
transition and special needs bags, etc.). I've work the transition area
the last three years in a row, and it's been a great experience.

rumor has it 2004 is the last year for ironman florida in PCB. i think they
are entertaining other offers for different venues

IM has not renewed its contracts at Panama City and talk is that it
may move to Disney (that had a 1/2 there this year). Disney will pay
IM a lot more money because they control all the Hotel revenues,
charge you $20 for a hamburger and $4 for a bottle of water. Few
places for spectators to watch, not convenient for them to reach the
venue and probably lots of "loops" for the bike so you don't interfere
with traffic to the parks. And you will get to sit on busses for
hours. Or it may be no more. That is probably why it hasn't opened for
registration.

I don't know about Ironman Florida, but I just did Ironman-USA, Lake
Placid. For IM-USA 2005, they opened the online registration and the
walk-up registration at the same time, 10AM on the Monday after the
race. I was told by the race officials that those of us in line were
"guaranteed" to get a spot and would receive priority over the people
who registered online. Several days after the walk-up registration, I
e-mailed IM North America for confirmation that my application had
been processed (it had). They said about 400 people had used the
walk-up registration. Assuming the numbers for Florida are about the
same, I would think it is safe to wait and register online as long as
you are at your computer at 10AM.

I had heard that also. A followup rumor has it that the agreement has been
extended by at least one additional year, but I haven't heard either rumor
from anyone official, so I guess we'll find out in November.

He's probably talking about the Florida 1/2 IM Registration. The site says
that registration will open when a date has been determined - that was 3
months ago!
