Florida Ironman opens up to late and that the event is full before you
have a chance to register.
Do I need to drive to Panama City, FL to register or is it safe to
wait and register online as soon as it is open. I did the race in 99'
and want to do it again in 05'. That if I can register online.
Last year I was at the race as a volunteer. I stayed the next day to sign
up, but when I realized they would only take cash, had to drive 2.5 hours
to my home and sign up online. I made it with hours to spare. Of course,
they fill up faster every year, so you may be a touch safer at te race
site. Just bring cash if you intend to sign up there.
BTW, I highly recommend showing up the day before the race and
volunteering if you're going to make the trip anyway. Short of actually
doing the race, it's as close to the action as you can get, and the best
feel for the mechanics of the race (where transition is, how you get you
transition and special needs bags, etc.). I've work the transition area
the last three years in a row, and it's been a great experience.
