  1. http://tinyurl.co.uk/8kls is an interesting one. (links to BBC website)
The comments generally seem to assume that the only way to get fit is
to use a gym. What an indictment on society!

    Especially as the original article:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/5277350.stm
contains the quote of Ms Flint (the Public Health minister):

"And I think that that is important, because a lot of people think that
they have to go to the gym five times a week and if they can't do that,
they can't do anything - and that is just not true."

When I used to smoke I was very lethargic in the mornings. Giving up
the tabs helped slightly, but it was still a struggle to get out of bed
before I absolutely had to. Stumbling out of bed at 8.30am still bleary
    eyed and wobbling into work.

3 weeks of light cycling (4 or 5 hours a week) and I'm waking up at 7am
every day and I'm wide awake. I'm now up to 8 hours cycling during the
week and another 8 hours at the weekend.

I didn't see that article (I have now.) The link I posted was straight
from the BBC News front page. As you say, it makes the whole thing even
more ironic! Even Blair is quoted as saying he will go to the gym more
    often.

"out of bed at 8.30am"?? I've done an hours work by then! Even if I am
    still bleary eyed :-)

Oh, it's the cycling is it? I was afraid it was the cappuccini.
I'm wide awake and up an hour before anyone else in the house,
but it is 6:55 with me, which just gives me time to get the milk
in and get to the downstairs radio for the pre-7am weather forecast
    in the toady program.

OK, OK, programME. But they do have a toady program on the toady programme.

Luxury! I have to drag myself out of bed at 0515, ride 12 miles to work, do
an 8 hour shift. ride home again, gobble down my tea and then go out for a
tough club ride in the evening of 40 miles.

Lucky you. No matter what time I wake up I'm always far more tired than when
I went to bed the previous night.

My commute is a whopping 450 meters.

I can't leave work before 5:30pm (occasionally yes, regularly no) so
there's not much point getting in before 9am. I'd rather use the extra
time to go out and cycle 20 miles.

In 6-9 months time my commute becomes 10km, which I'm looking forward
to as it will stop being optional.

5:30pm? I've still got half an hour to go! OK, not at the moment, but
up until a month ago I would have. I bet you have an hour for lunch as
well :-) (Don't take me too seriously - this is getting like the two
    Yorkshire men sketch!)

That's a nice distance to commute, I think. (he says, trying to work out
what 10km actually is!) I did 8 miles each way for a while, and it was
just right. Now I'm accidentally living too close to work, so only 2.5
miles which in winter is barely enough to warm up, and in summer is just
    long enough to get hot!!!!
