  1. It seems my miracle jump the other day did in my mass-market wannabe of a
bicycle. I discovered some frame damage today after noticing increasing
wobbliness in the crank rotation. Seems I warped and/or cracked nearly
everything in contact with the bottom bracket.

So it's off to get something better, and I've been eyeing the various Sugar
models for some time now. There's a Sugar 4+ listed on eBay at the moment
that's a 2002 model, at what would be a fair bargain vs. the 2004 retail
price, provided the seller's description of the bike is to be believed.

I am unable to find good spec lists for older model year bikes from Fisher,
so here's the question: Anyone out there knowledgeable about the changes
and/or improvements GF has done to this bike over the last couple of model
years? Maybe able to rate the 2002 stuff vs. current stuff?

Suggestions of other good FS bikes in the 1000 clam range are welcome.

www.epinions.com is useful when looking for specs on older bikes:

Actually, there's an archive section on fisherbikes.com which goes back
to the 2002 model year. The sugar 4+ specs are at:

    http://www.fisherbikes.com/archive/bike_detail.asp?year=2002&bike=Sugar4_plus

You have to wade through the flash [censored] to get to the archive, though -
select "bikes" then "archive" at the bottom of the menu.

What's your LBS say about warranty? Unless you where getting real big
air, it shouldn't have broken. Get a new frame and sell it to finance
    the next one.

The bike is a Frankenstein beast I've assembled from parts. The frame is
the only part of the original bike left, and is from a post-Wal-Mart-Buyout
Schwinn (its only saving grace is that it was aluminum). I'm quite sure the
clerk at the customer service counter at wally world would just laugh me out
of the store. Everything else, with the exception of the bottom bracket and
cranks, I've replaced with other stuff over time. I thought about just
buying a new frame, but I have the cash on hand, and I'd rather have a whole
bike plus a lot of spare parts (a whole XT drivetrain for starters).

    Yeah, it's still a chain-sucking flimsy POS.

    Stolen.
