I have posted a few on this NG so far this year. I have progressed from
being unable to run 20 minutes without stopping for breath at the start of
March to having completed my first, and last, half-marathon on Saturday
(18-Sep).
The first goal was a 10K in May, then a 10m in August and finally the
half-marathon in the Phonenix Park on Saturday. Each presented their own
challenges which were met and overcome.
My MIZUNO shoes, bought about 6 years ago, went out in the bin this morning.
Last week, as noted on this NG, they finally reached the end of their useful
life. To buy another pair means setting goals for the next 12 months and I'm
not yet ready to do that.
The half-marathon was, physically, the second-most demanding thing I've ever
done. The synergy and camaraderie of the fellow sloggers made the last 3
miles bearable, though the last mile, especially the short climb from
Chapelizod Gate, was rough. My finishing time, risible according to some on
this NG, was inside my own target. I went through 10 miles on Saturday
quicker than my finishing time for the 10-mile race in August.
To anyone who ever showed any interest in my random postings this year -
Thank You.
