I am new to road cycling and today was my first ride. I have a Trek 1.1 with clipless pedals. The learning curve with the pedals was short, and my rear end got used to the seat. I only rode about eight miles. I notice my wrists were a little fatigued, and my thighs would burn the entire ride. Are my legs out of shape or is that just part of cycling. Thanks!!!

You might need some fitting adjustments. If your wrists or hands get sore, usually it means you're putting too much weight on them as you ride.

It was a lot better today. Went 10.5 miles I tried to work on better form it seemed to help my wrists. I'm getting really stoke about this sport. I also learned I should fill both water bottles!

Don't give up, it'll get better the more you ride. 😎

If your thighs are burning, try spinning easier gears. Most new cyclists make the "mistake" of turning too big a gear and thereby "mashing" the pedals and tiring out their quads. You will notice that more experienced cyclists spin easier gears. This saves their legs allowing them to go much further before muscle fatigue/failure.

Thanks, I will try that. I just feel like Im not going fast enough to actually get anything out of the ride. Its appears that I was wrong. Thanks again!!!!! :o

If your wrists are hurting check that your sadle isn't too high, this is a common mistake. If you are sat too high you will put extra strain on your wrists as all your body is leaning down on them.

I will re-check my seat. Thank you!
