  1. Haha! I have no shame whatsoever! Here's a link to
    a picture of it.

I saw something like it in a cake decoration book at
Borders and then when I went back for a second look,
it was gone. The cake itself is Hershey's Perfectly
Chocolate cake in an 8" and 9" pan. For the icing I
used shortening instead of butter (which I prefer)
and clear imitation vanilla to keep it as white as
possible, stirred in with powdered sugar. I pressed
coconut into it after the fact.

The cake represents my first experience with Marzipan
and paste coloring, which I used for the coal and
    scarf.

That's a wonderful cake, Michael! You can't look at it without smiling.
Are you sure you're a beginner, or are you food-hustling us? 😉

    Way to go!

Geez, that looks great. You should see the first, and only, cake I've
    decorated.

People like you make me sick. 🙂

    Great job for your first!

Luckily, not many people laid eyes on my first decorated cake. It was no
where as neat or cute as yours.

Keep it up, you have a knack for this kind of thing. Beware though... cake
decorating is an addictive hobby :-)

Wow, that scarf looks great! You can win me over with
    coconut in a NY minute.

Most excellent! Just as cute as can be 🙂 Darn, you aren't going to slice
    it, are you?

WOW! Most impressive. The marzipan scarf is a nice touch.
What a spectacular effort! Almost makes me want to take up cake
    decorating again :-)

  10. Thanks for all the kind words! There's nothing left but his
forehead now. Haha. The family didn't care for the taste
of the marzipan, and I couldn't much blame them. It's not
a bad taste but not stunningly delicious, either.

I'm planning another one now. The planning is a lot of fun
in itself. I've been studying how to make flowers...
A very Happy New Year to everybody!

I don't care for marzipan either, but there's red dye and then there's red
dye. Some taste bitter when used for a dark red color, as opposed to pink.
I don't recall which brand/type is best for dark red.

    Loved the cake!

  12. Wow, I love it! ha. A woman just opened a cake decorating store up the
street from me, I signed up to take classes. She said she's an award
winner. I actually love marzipan, my favorite is marzipan with
    chocolate.
