First Comments Re: KMC 10v Chain

There is a technique to get past the detent to non-destructively remove this link-it involves
applying compressive force to the rollers. I modified a long nose for this, but creative use of snap
ring pliers... Tom

roads and by the end of the ride, I had a click/creak due to a
dirty/dry chain. Otherwise, the chain performed flawlessly.

Second ride was Sunday. Lubed liberally with Prolink and the chain
performed very well. Quiet, nice, quick shifts and no creaking.

We'll see how it performs in the long haul. I wonder if a SuperLink
or other replaceable link would work with this chain?

I too have a Campagnolo-equipped (Record 10) bike, and may have missed it, but could someone explain why you would choose the KMC 10v over a Wipperman or the original Campy chain?

Probably cost. On my 10 speed drive train I use the KMC9200 chain. It's their 2nd best 9speed chain
and connect it with a SRAM powerlink. It works flawlessly.

darned useful special tools for clipping, pinching, grabbing, and working on odd bicycle and

The new Campy chains require a tool that costs more than my first derailleur-equipped bicycle.

I have a lot of respect for the KMC Chain: It (SS90) shifts the old Accushift stuff better than even
an OEM DID chain, and much better than a PC80. It also shifts my 8spd campy/sachs freewheel combo as
good as PC80.

Why? Because the original Campy chain's performance was not up to my expectations. Research pointed
me to the Wipperman, which was cheaper and, as promised, worked better IME. While at A. Muzi's shop
in search of a new chain, he suggested trying the KMC. I trust him to recommend products that work
and have been pleased with suggestions he has made in the past. Additionally, he was asking the same
price for the KMC as the Wip ni.

Who doesn't buy Campy just 'cuz it's Campy, but rather because it works well for him - when it stops
working well, he'll buy something else - like the Wip or KMC.

Sorry. I know it isn't up to Fogel standards, but at least it adheres to the form (and note the
visual play on line length versus syllables!). I probably remove my chain about three times per year
and soak it. A PITA with the campy chain - or you pay extra for a removeable link. The Wip and KMC
can be had for about $30 on the web
- the Campy is significantly more for less. I have to admit that I have not used the latest 10v
chain. But I get all the performance I want for less. No reason to pay more - unless it lasts
longer. Bet it doesn't. Admittedly, the KMC doesn't have a link intended for removal but as
suggested earlier in this thread, it can.
