At the suggestion of the esteemed Mr. Muzi, I purchased a KMC 10v chain for my Campagnolo-equipped
bike. The first thing I realized, and probably the only real negative comment I have about the chain
is that the link (they call it the "missing link"😉 must be broken to be removed and cannot be re-
installed like the Wipperman or IRD. Oh, and the link is a weird irridescent color - makes it easy
to find if you want to remove the chain but it kinda looks goofy next to the nickel plating of the
rest of the chain.
I tried to use my old Connex link, but the pin on the link was just a little too large for the KMC.
So I installed the "missing link" which was easy - just install as with any other removeable link
and then get on the bike, lock the brakes and stand on the pedals. "Snik", the link snaps into
place and done.
My first ride was last Saturday - I didn't lube the chain before I rode it - probably a mistake.
There was a fair amount of water in the roads and by the end of the ride, I had a click/creak due to
a dirty/dry chain. Otherwise, the chain performed flawlessly.
Second ride was Sunday. Lubed liberally with Prolink and the chain performed very well. Quiet, nice,
quick shifts and no creaking.
We'll see how it performs in the long haul. I wonder if a SuperLink or other replaceable link would
work with this chain?
