At any rate, I fail to see how making the Giro-Tour double
relatively easy would help the sport. Shouldn't it be,
like, HARD?
Simoni, Garzelli and Noè' visited the Giro and Tour.
Francisco Mancebo, Roberto Heras, Roberto Laiseka, Richard
Virenque, Isidro Nozal, Carlos Sastre and a few others went
to the Tour and Vuelta, by far the most popular combination.
Michele Scarponi, Dario Frigo and Wladimir Belli visited the
Giro and Vuelta. Aitor Gonzalez was at the start of all
three, for reasons that are hard to fathom.
But then you have a group which contested the Tour only. It
starts with Lance and Jan at the top, but also includes -
watch this - Alexandre Vinokourov, Tyler Hamilton, Haimar
Zubeldia, Iban Mayo, Ivan Basso, and Christophe Moreau.
HMMMMMM. Gee, that list looks awfully familiar.
But as Pantani showed us, even in this kind of Tour-centric
climate, it can still be done...
