And thanks for sharing!
Yes you will ride further and faster as time goes on. But what you did today... is very respectable. Remember to keep yourself well hydrated, and it can help to finish your ride at meal time as well [a little protein following a ride is good for muscle repair].

Excellent! See its not as bad as you thoughts. just remember to stretch b4 and after the ride. this way your muscles can build and you wont feel so weak the next day.
-
Good for you. Just keep it up and you will get better and feel better, meet people that cycle and make friends with them, spend too much on bikes, get competitive and crush the egos of those friends you made by decimating them on the steep climbs so you can become an arrogant , snobish roadie. you make "arrogant, snobbish roadie" sound like a bad thing.

I didn't mean to. I just have trouble expressing my true feelings sometimes.

All right, great achievment! I'm a relative newbe to road cycling at 57 and remember my first 20 miles well. Keep adding a little at a time and befor you know it you'll be doing 50 miles without problems. Make sure you DRINK AND EAT enough!
-
congrats. it's just a matter of sticking with it and riding at a reasonably aerobic pace and you'll just improve and improve and improve. I got back to riding at 59, two years ago and did a two mile ride my first time back on my bike. did a century two weeks ago and another last week. It's proof there's hope for anyone

Keep it up and enjoy the riding. Longer distances aren't at all as difficult as most would think. Before you know it, you'll be riding much farther. A friend's wife had foot surgery and was laid up for a while. She was also an avid runner. When she was cleared for physical activity, she took up bike riding, and in a matter of three months she went from struggling to do 10-15 miles to doing 70 miles with ease.
