That's great. I have to tell you though, the OLN/CyclingTV feed is really
good and a bargain. It's also very easy to record with software that allows
streaming video to be recorded in Window Media format. You can then burn it
to a dvd.

I should add that if you want to burn it to a DVD, you of course need a DVD
writer AND the software to convert the WM video file for writing. Windows
XP does not come with the software needed.

This is great info thanks. I found a couple of other capture programs when I
was searching before the Giro started, but it's always good to hear
someone's experience actually using it. I decided instead just to output the
signal to record it on an old VCR and that has worked pretty well. Aside
from the glitch on the 2nd day, the cycling.tv feed has been excellent.

How good is your screen? My network test came out at their fastest
speed and still the picture is pretty crappy at full screen. Better
than not watching, but not even anywhere close to regular TV. The
original promo with Phil Liggett looked much better and I had hoped for
that. As it is, it is nearly impossible to read the rider's numbers and
on the profile screen, I can't actually read the names of the features
along the route.

Unfortunately that doesn't matter at the moment. As they approached the
final climb this morning my PC crashd hard enough to lose my desktop
settings, leaving me unable to log in. I've tried the password I used
during the registration process and it gets reject as "bad password or
username". I've tried emailing [email hidden] using both my gmail
and comcast accounts and it bounces with
"553_sorry,_relaying_denied_from_your_location" which is pretty
maddening.

I'm not sure if I'll even be able to watch any more of the race. 🙁

not the streaming link. Just finished watching this morning's stage with
simultaneous English audio from Eurosport.

I use Replay AV and it usually works great but I am having a problem with
the Giro. It records the regular program from Cycling TV, not the Giro
feed...even when I am watching the Giro. Anyone have an idea?

feed as OLN did not have it streaming and I don't subscribe to OLN TV. In
transcoding the stream for DVD burning my software program (Nero) advised
that part of the stream was in PAL as opposed to NTSF. It was not a problem
for the progran to convert it to NTSF but, subjectively, I don't think the
final DVD is quite as clear as the OLN stream. However this may have more
to to with bit rate in transmission with OLN being faster. Anyway, it's
nice to be able to record it.

cycling.tv OLN feed. I've just been recording to a VCR since the quality is
fine for that, and it's much easier. The max OLN live feed I've seen is only
391 kbps, whereas the OLN highlights feed is 781 kbps, though it's hard to
see that the quality of the highlights is much better. Dunno what the Rai
feed comes through at. RAI on Sat TV with eurosport.com audio might be the
best bet, but cycling.tv isn't bad at all.

BTW, especially for the RAI internet feed, setting the mediaplayer buffer to
a full 60 seconds seemed to smooth the feed, and it may help the OLN feed
also -- even with a FIOS connection cycling.tv popped me out of full-screen
a few times with a "do you want to lower your connection speed" message -
quite annoying.

I also noticed that the OLN highlight feed is of better quality. I wonder
if the replay feed in the evening is better as well. I thought about just
running it to a vcr, but I really like being able to more readily access
parts of stages via DVD. The mountains next week should be spectacular to
watch.

The coverage on Evasion in canada is from RAI- it's not live, but taped
live, and we get 90 minutes every night. It's great! I wish there was
more but it's better than what we had last year- NOTHING!

I use WM Recorder which opens IE(non-proxy) and records the media stream. I
can then play it back in WMPlayer. I use Nero to transcode it for DVD
recording in NTSA format. No problems at all.
