  1. FINALLY!! This morning I weighed and I have finally hit the 50 lbs. mark. I
have been low-carbing since April 15th 2004. My weightloss has slowed a lot
in the last 2 months yet I have been able to keep plugging along. I have 21
pounds left to reach my goal.
Just wanted sound off about my progress! Stats posted below.

My only suggestion is to thin about whether 135 is perhaps too
ambitious as a goal weight to maintain. Are you small boned? What's
your reasoning for 135 lbs as opposed to, say, 145?

Well, I am not sure where I pulled the number 135lbs from. But once I did
weight 115 and was 5'4". I do not think 115 is a reasonable weight for my
age and height to be healthy and look healthy. I am not big boned and 135
is right in the middle of the charts. I am not going to fret about it even
if I only make it to 145lbs. I have found that controlling my carbs is the
best way to satisfy my appetite and control my weight. I have fretted about
my weight for most of my life even when I was not fat. The science of the
low-carb diet has let me gain control of my weight/life again. I feel so
much better than I did at >200lbs. I can move easier in every way.
    Thanks for the support,

  15. The success stories keep me from quitting. My daughter left for college on
Aug 17th. I've been up there a few times and I've been on my cruise
vacation. Now I am home for awhile (it's just me). I've been very lonely.
I have never in my entire life lived alone. I don't have any family here to
do things with. It is just way too quiet here at night. Because of that -
I find myself eating and sometimes things I shouldn't eat - not that they
are bad things - it's just I think I might be eating more than I should -
out of boredom and loneliness. I have had a glass of wine a couple nights
with dinner. I thought when my daughter left - it would be so easy to cook
for myself and eat much healthier. I'm finding it harder than I thought. I
gained a few pounds last week when TOM visited and I'm finding it harder
than normal to lose it this month. I haven't had the craving or thirst for
water that I've had the last six months. I guess I will have to force
    myself to drink more water.
Is there anyone in the San Antonio area that is single and needs company?
Are there others here who have gone through situations that have changed the
way you were eating for one reason or another? How did you cope?

Use this time for YOU. Sometimes when people live to do for others, they don't
know how to do for themselves. Take some classes at your local community
college or recreation center. Pick up a long-lost hobby. Find something to do,
something to keep yourself busy and happy. Then food will be the last thing on
    your mind.

Ditto on the advice. Don't think of yourself as lonely, think of yourself as
INDEPENDENT. This is a good time to discover what YOU like and don't like and to
do something about it if you want. Take a bath with the bathroom door open!
Dance around the house! Watch whatever YOU want on TV! Listen to music that YOU
like to hear! Make as much noise as you want when you use the vibrator ;-) It's
    YOUR time now!

  18. Dear Diane,

Start getting yourself in gear and either start spending time doing the
things you love to do, or start finding out about new things that will
become things you love to do. There are so many activities in this
world that are fascinating that you might be difficult to find the time
for all of them once you know what they are. Have you ever been a good
dancer? Do you want to be? Now is the time to take lessons. Have you
ever wanted to write? Swim? Paint? Take good photos? Collect and listen
to a certain type of music? Be on your condo board, neighborhood watch,
or city council? Join a butterfly club? Volunteer at your local museum?
Be a senior citizen aid? Start your own business? Travel to other places?

Do you know how to find cheap air fairs and hotel rooms on Internet?
Figuring out how to achieve those goals will take up your time for a few
    weeks.

Do you know what is being offered in adult evening classes in your
area? I'm taking a class next month titled "The Art of Seeing; using a
photographer's eye to increase your creativity." One evening, $15. I
believe it will put some new ideas in my mind and I'm looking forward to
    it!

There are many things I'd rather do with my time than eat. But they are
"my" things, and each of us has our own unique list. You will need to
find (and develop) your own unique interests.

Living alone doesn't have to be boring or depressing. You make your own
life..... make it interesting and exciting! It does take time and
effort, but no one can make your life interesting but you.

I now what you are going thru.

Im 46 and have lived alone for some time now

I will tell that living alone is something that is
"learned". But it does get better as time goes on

And Id take you up on dinner or lunch if I lived closer

  20. Thank you everyone for all the advice. Since this is a fairly new
adjustment - I am definitely having to learn. I went straight from living
at home to living with a roommate at college to being married to being a
single parent - so I have no real concept of how to act living by myself. I
like movies. I like doing things - but I hate going places by myself. San
Antonio is not known for being a good place to find singles. I will take it
one day at a time and go from there. I am determined to lose my weight -
even if I have a few setbacks along the way - because I know I can do it.
