I've been LC for about 3 years and have maintained my weight loss.
However the thing I find most difficult is getting enough fiber,
especially since I don't eat fruit. Any suggestions would be welcome.
TIA.

I'm finding that the supplemental magnesium and
fish oil that are part of the Protein Power
Lifeplan recommendations combined with the
incidental fiber that I get from eating seeds
and vegetables keeps me "loosened up" enough
to where I rarely have to dip in to the
fiber supplement like I did before I added
those supplements to my diet. Exercise is
important too. The more I exercise the less
fiber I require. Water is another part of
the picture. My absolute minimum is a half-
gallon (2 liters) a day. And that's only on
lazy days. A typical day is 3-4 liters and
a highly active day is 6 liters.I'm assuming that regularity is the issue here.
However, I could be wrong. 3 years of low
carbing should have provided you with a pretty
good idea of how much fiber is required to
keep you regular. For example, as far as I'm
concerned, an average of 1 bowel movement per
day is appropriate. With the supplemental
magnesium and fish oil I only need to get 6-12
grams of fiber per day. Beyond 15 grams I'm
up to 2 or 3 bowel movements per day. But
without the magnesium and fish oil my fiber
requirement doubles. As usual this is a "your mileage may vary"
situation. Modulating the dosage of a low
net-carb fiber supplement until you find
what best suits your situation is the popular
solution. However, the point that I'm trying
to make is that a check on your diets fat and
magnesium content might be appropriate. And
if regularity isn't the issue, I believe that
you can still use it to guage the fiber content
of your diet. In other words, if you're regular
you're getting enough fiber. I don't believe
that fiber in excess of what is required for
regularity is necessary.

TIA.Psyllium husk fiber is the best quality for me. It makes the stools soft
and slippery (but not smeary/sticky so that I have to wipe for what seems
like hours).Sorry if that's rather graphic, but I figure people may benefit from the
information. -

trash. It'll clean your backside quicker and easier, and faster.Graphic is okay. We are all adults here and have to deal with the same

No, really it's quite nice steamed w/ butter and salt.
I eat quite a volume of vegetables (I *like* vegetables), but I find okra
quite remarkable for its fiber-ific qualities.Martha

However the thing I find most difficult is getting enough fiber,
especially since I don't eat fruit. Any suggestions would be welcome.I make a low-carb hot cereal from flaxmeal, hazelnut meal and protein
powder and flavor it with either maple flavoring or cocoa powder (and
occasionally cinnamon). It keeps me regular and it's tasty &
nutritious. The protein powder cuts down on the slime factor from the
oily ground flaxseeds. The oil is pretty good for you, though, I and
strongly suspect it helps make things more comfortable its way out 🙂--

Jicama. I stir fry it all the time with veggies and it's packed with
fiber. It's texture is similar to water chestnuts that you find in
chinese foods, except jicama doesn't taste like it's been stuck in a
metal lunchbox with a dirty mop.--

Thanks to all who replied so helpfully to my question. My regimen
includes Metamucyl, Fiber 1 and green veg daily, and I was just
checking to see what else might be around. I'll certainly look into
magnesium, fish oil and jicama. Not so sure about the okra though! -

Those with lots of dietary fat find regularity without supplementary fiber.

quite remarkable for its fiber-ific qualities. Here's what I did recently, I liked it but I haven't named it:
1 lb sliced okra, boiled, rinsed, and drained.
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can rotel tomatoes
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
8 oz sliced sausage
1 large onion sliced thin and sautéed in olive oil
1 lb shrimp, boiled, tails removed
a little waterThe whole pot is 92g fat, 22g carb, 29g fiber, 170g protein

I do something similar, recipe given to me by an Italian friend. Have never
put okra in it but that would be good, too. No amounts but the ingredients
are Polish sausage cut in 1 inch lengths (I use the hot flavor), canned
tomatoes, onion, zucchini, green peppers, mushrooms, garlic, Italian
seasoning. All chopped up and cooked until done.In news:[email hidden],

seed in a bowl with a scoop of protein powder, and a handful of chopped nuts
(usually almonds, although pecans and walnuts are also good). Some stevia or
other AS to sweeten, maybe some flavoring, and pour in boiling water,
stirring. Add a bit of cream, half-and-half, or whatever, maybe a few
berries, and it's a great breakfast. SF maple syrup is good too, or some
cinnamon. For me, although I eat a lot of veggies, nuts seem to be the best food for
"regularity". I usually have some nuts every day, either in hot cereal (as
above) or just out of hand as a snack. If I eat too many, I have a problem
opposite to regularity, but without the other annoying symptoms sugar
alcohols create (surprising nobody mentioned those!)HG
