Car, every time. Starve the kids, or put them out to work in the fields
- might get some of the fat off them (not yours specifically LOL, hole
dug deeper and deeper - hand me a ladder someone?)

Not necessarily snobs, but definitely spoiled. The rest of the world has
been paying waaay more than us for a decade or more. As a result, look at
cars in other modern countries (ie. European nations). Small, efficient.
Look at public transit. Popular, efficient. Look at bike use there - huge,
and for commuting as much as recreational.

America has been buffaloed by oil lobby dollars, automobile mega-corps and
politics/media. Come to think of it, "buffaloed" might be an apt
description...

Geez, did I write that? Got to get back to my ride report from last
weekend. I feel guilty that I drove to the trailhead, even in my tiny car.

Makes me glad I drive a company car with a fleet card. No way in the world I
could afford to drive to work everyday with these prices. I even have a hard
time driving my personel vehicle to the trail head anymore....

The happy side of Darwinism is that by cruising around needing only a
bit of oil on your chain, you're increasing personal wealth relative to
the slobs. Survival of the fittest, baby.*
Sure, there's exceptions where people need cars and all, but here in
nyc it's hard to justify using a 4000lb vehicle every time you want to
go 3 miles.
All goes back to one of the great joys of biking -- eat more so you can
bike more so you can eat more....
