It's pretty dang cheap in Michigan as well. When I
lived there, it was the prefered soda of cash-starved
college students

I worked for a short time dispensing soda at events. You
take some carbonated water and hook it to a hose. You hook
another hose to the flavoring. It mixes, and comes out the
tap. What I am saying is that the flavorings mostly all come
from the same place, so most sodas are the same. However,
CocaCola and Pepsi have their own flavors. But when it comes
to generic pop, I have a strong feeling the flavor is all
the same, most likely from the same manufacturer. I get
Walmarts generic, and that from another discount store. It's
identical.

Here in metro Detroit, its the second cheapest brand in most
supermarkets. Usually, the only one that is less expensive
is the store brand. Faygo cola is the only non-Coke cola i
can stand, but i do not drink much pop these days. RedPop is
still one of my favorites 🙂

Around here the cheapest soda you can get is Polar Cap.
They're over in North Providence, and it's a cash and
carry place.

My store, Meijers, doesn't carry Faygo, or at least I don't
remember seeing
it. I like the Meijer brand of soda and usually stock up
on the flavor I like when it is on sale. The cheapest
I recall seeing it was $1.25 for 12. But I know what
you mean about the dirty looks. I just buy the cheap
stuff now and if anyone wants to spend three time more
for a name brand, I have no objection. Meijer has two
flavors of cola. One that they sell to Pepsi lovers
and one for Coke lovers. The diet cola tastes very
similar to diet Coke.

It is the most expensive off brand. So it is king of B-grade
pop (like Big K, Simply, Sams choice, etc.)

Their root beer is perfectly acceptable. Their orange,
grape, and redpop are exactly what you look for in
artificial fruit flavored pop. And Rock'n'Rye is unique.

some cheap brand came through the door rather than Diet

Rock & Rye is my favorite Faygo flavor. I think it's
because it reminds me of a simpler time..............before
I had a mortgage.

Faygo and Fanta aren't generic. They're actual brands. But
they're not predicated on the "make people believe they're
magic drugs" business model.

"Store-brand" soda, I'd agree, could be all the same stuff.
Just like any other store-brand or generic product.

The main reason Faygo is so cheap compared to Pepsi and Coke
is that with Faygo, you're not paying for tons of
advertising, be it sponsoring Nascar races or a basketball
pregame show or having some overpaid celeb do a 30 second
commercial which airs during the Super Bowl or billboards
which appear behind home plate during the Fox game of the
week. Faygo is IMO the best of the generic brands, which is
those that just offer root beer, orange, grape, etc

I remember back in the late 80's there were two main
supermarket chains in the town I lived in that had a Pepsi
war one week. It began when one of them had a special where
they were selling 2 liter plastic bottles of Pepsi for 69
cents, and the other chain retaliated the next day by
lowering their price to 59 cents, and they fought back and
forth until the one chain was selling 2 liter Pepsis for 19
cents and the other at 29 cents. That week I bought so much
Pepsi it lasted me several months.

I needed change yesteday, so I bought a pop (side note - I
have resumed using the word "pop" in the last year or so,
embracing my local culture even if it gets me mocked by
eastcoasters)

I'm always drawn to Jones Soda, despite experience.
Actually, their root beer is decent. The cream soda is
horrible. But yesterday I tried a "chocolate fudge soda."

Now I know what it tastes like to drink a tootsie roll pop.
Not bad, but not worth repeating.

I would have gotten a Faygo, but I didn't want a 24oz pop. I
might as well just eat a bag of sugar.

The liquor store I was at had a separate upscale Faygo line.
I kid you not; upscale Faygo, right below the Crush and
above the Jones in the designer pop area. I saw the
rock'n'rye there. I didn't see it in the regular section,
alhtough there was a bottle with raspberries on it.

I'm begining to think I have a serious addiction to
refined sugar.

world war II so they could have a product to sell in Nazi

It's too bad they don't seem to sell the Fanta Lemon soda
in the US. I've been looking for a lemon soda, not lemon-
lime, not lemonade. When I was kid Nehi made one, but they
don't anymore.
