Not gadgets, but Ed bought me two Wusthof (sp?) knives some years back (a
bird's eye and a tomato slicer), and I don't go near a tomato without them.

Serrated tomato slicers are nice and I used to use one...
until I bought my oriental knife. :-)
That think holds an edge like you would not believe!
Gods help me if I ever get my finger under it (so far that's not
happened!).
I can literally slice tomato paper thin with that thing.
